Here is a quick way to apply text to an image.
Go to
http://www.vicman.net/vcwphoto/index.htm and download the free version.

Here is the image that I want to use to apply the text -

Open the program and then click "file", "open", find your image name, click on it and then click "open". In the box with all the colors to the right side, choose your color of text by clicking the color. Now click on the green "T" on the left side. Click inside your image and a box will pop up. Click in the text area to start your cursor and then type your text. At the top of that box, click the down arrow and pick your font. For this one, I have chosen "Brushscript MT". In the next box over, click the down arrow and select the "size" of your text. For mine, I have chosen "36". If you want bold, italicized, or underlined, click on the boxes to the right of the size box. You will be able to see your text change. If you don't like something, click on whatever box you wish to change and it will revert back. Also, you can change the font or size any time by clicking the down arrows again and re-choosing.

When you're ready to apply the text, click "ok". Your text will appear on your image "wavy" and your cursor will be a "hand". With the hand, left click and move your text wherever you would like it placed. When you have it positioned where you want it, click the green "T" in the left margin again and you'll see your text applied to your image.

If you don't like it, click the blue "undo" arrow located to the left of the scissors and then click inside your image again and you're ready to redo the text.

When you're ready to save it, go up to "file", "save as" and in that box choose from the down arrow where you would like to save the image. At the bottom, choose a "file name". If this is an image that I've added something to like text, etc - I just put a 2 behind the file name that is already showing. Now click "save". Another box will popup showing a "quality of jpeg" in percent. Just click okay and you're all set.

Here is the finished image -
