NAV says 5 virus defs

Hi folks,

After updating NAV today, now the number of virus definitions says 5!

It was way over 65,000 before the update.

I viewed the report of covered viruses and there are plenty of entries, but the number 5 has me worried. Is anyone else seeing this?

Crockett found the answer; something to do with 16 bit integers can only count so high then they start over. Seems that Symantec is working on a fix.

I had the same thing but after this evenings update it is showing the correct number now.

I have just updated mine and it is showing 64544 is that correct.

The number only shows correct now because they reduced the data base by 97 viruses...Here is the explanation as to why this is happening.
Looks like an arithmetic overflow. The 11/13 definitions have 65,541 entries, and the maximum value that an unsigned 16-bit integer can represent is 65,535, causing the total to be off by 65,536. The difference is 5, causing the virus list to show a total of "5 viruses"
