I am resubmitting this question because I think I may have described it wrong in the 1st instance.
Every time I boot up,I get to the desktop, I dial up on the ADSL then open my Outlook. As soon as I do this Norton Anti-Virus 2003 checks what seems to be an e-mail departing. I cant find out what is being sent, nothing new in the "Sent Items" items folder in Outlook 2000.
I have checked settings in Outlook(2000)and disabled send messages at start up.I have also checked the Start Up folder and also msconfig and removed all non essential items. This event only happens on a clean boot and not if I come out of Outlook and go back into it.
Op sys: Win XP Pro
Addendum: Have just rebooted and connected the ADSL and connected to the Internet,I have not opened Outlook and still something has been scanned by norton av. Probably nothing to do with e_mail but would like to know what info is being sent and where?
Anyone got any suggestions!!! __________________

I found the problem myself.
Trojan infection - Backdoor.Phoenix
affects all op systems - opens port 7410 on infected pc.
Creates values -
ctwdm16.exe in %windir%ctdw16.exe
ssdpcache.exe in %windir%ssdpcache.exe /doc
For removal instructions go to following link
www.security.response.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/
data/backdoor.phoenix.html
Cheers
