Hi Angel

Welcome to MPC.

Well I have always used Internet Explorer and must say I have always been happy with it, but a lot of our members use different ones such as MyIE2 and Mozilla, so I have no doubt you will get some different opinions from them.

Have a read of this thread from our archive, from someone asking the same question:

Better Browsers (http://www.mypcclinic.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=440&hl=myie2)

YA

I use Mozilla Firebird 0.6 and I wouldn't go anywhere without it. BUT you have to be one of those people who enjoys tinkering since Firebird is a build it yourself browser -- you are expected to add "extensions" that add functions that you might want. And there are a couple of pretty necessary tweaks that involve editing files in Notepad. Easy but not something that everyone would want to do.

Mozilla 1.4 is the latest full browser "suite" from the Mozilla org. It has a mail and news client and an HTML editor and doesn't require add ons (although there are some available and they do neat techy things.) Still, you have lots of options and lots of choices to make.

Both Mozilla Firebird 0.6 and Mozilla 1.4 are very fast compared to Internet Explorer but on cable everything is fast.

I have tried Opera -- and lots of very smart people like it a lot -- but I can't make sense of it. Everything that I asked it to do it fought back.

I think IE is OK and I use it sometimes to look at a webpage that Firebird can't render properly (I'd say that 1 out of 20 or 30 webpages just doesn't work in anything but IE.) And IE works OK "right out of the box", which the Mozilla browsers don't do nearly as well. (Mozilla better than Firebird., though.) But if you DO want to make changes in IE you have to dig through gobbldegooky menus that never quite say what they mean. And you really do have to keep IE up to date at Windows Update (but you should do this anyway, whether you use IE as your default browser or not.) Plus there are a couple of very important security precautions that you should take -- but which Microsoft doesn't tell you about. They don't tell you because these precautions often involve disabling some poorly thought out Microsoft "feature" that might leave you vulnerable to internet nasties.

I'll leave the IE "Front Ends" like MyIE2 and Avant to those who have used them.

[B]Thank You alan and amie for your opinions on what browser I can select, I have chosen MyIE2 and am trying it so far it is ok but am having trouble seeing the whole page when I go into ionthunder.com to play a game, I can't figure out to get the whole page to show up. Otherwise IE2 is good...

I think I can help you with your problem once I understand what is happening. I tried to go to the link in your post but it would not work so I don't know if you had a typo in the url or if the site was down.

Do you want to have the toolbar and the rest of the top of the browser hidden so you have a full screen display?

Angel

I have found this a good site for learning about MyIE2:

The Unofficial Guide of MyIE2 (http://www.hkhenry.com/myie2/sic/myie2guide/)

My favorite non-I.E browsers are Opera 7.11 and Mozilla-Firebird 0.6 in that order.
With I.E. support...My IE2 or Avant

Press the F11 key to hide. When you are done press it again to get the toolbar back. The same as IE. :)

I'm afraid I was not that kind of Ranger. :) I wore a black beret back when you had to earn it and latter a green one. I think they wear the tan beret now like the British SAS does to separate them from the regular troops.
