Friend has win ME . When he transfers ( by using cut and paste ) from hd c to hd d the stuff goes to d but it is still in c . Due to this he is not gaining any space in c . When he looks at the pie chart for c it is still mostly used .
Why is he not gaining space in c ?????

Hi Sargol,

I never transferred files to another drive that way, but are you sure he is using cut and paste and not copy and paste?

Regardless, he should be at least able to delete the files from C once they are transferred.

I feel sure you will get some better answers, just be patient.

BTW, good to see you. :thRt:

[added] System Restore will take a lot of space on a hard drive if it is not limited. You can limit the space SR is alotted by right clicking "my computer" icon>properties>performance>file system (button)>hard disk tab, here you will see a slider, you can limit the amount of space System Restore gets to use (click apply and okay).

I used to have it set at the minimum amount (200MB) before I disabled it completely. That should be enough for at least two weeks of backup.

Hi Sargol,

LeRoi makes a very valid point in that your friend should check that he is actually "cutting" (Control X) and not "copying" (Control C). Also, as LeRoi points out, he can always delete the files from "C" after he has verified that they are on "D". He might want to do a defrag as well.
