I thought that my Recycle bin problem was over but it has happened again. There are items there but the folder shows nothing. I cured it last time with this command but it doesn't seem to work now.
What is the proper way to use this command, I accessed it before from RUN but not sure how to really enter it, on separate lines? or not?

"Damaged Recycled Folder
The Recycled folder itself can become damaged. Files are moved to the folder and the Recycle Bin on the desktop appears full, but you cannot view the contents and the Empty The Recycle Bin command is unavailable. Deleting this folder and restarting Windows will re-create this folder and restore functionality:

Restart to a command prompt.
Type attrib -s -h recycled.
Type del recycled.
Restart the computers"

If someone could explain please. Can I enter a command prompt from startup? Do the full stops need entering and what about spaces?
Thanks
John

John.

To restart to a command prompt, reboot your computer and as soon as the Black and White post screen appears, repeatedly tap the F8 key (or the Ctrl key if that does not work) until a menu appears.

Press the Space Bar (or any other key) once. This will keep the menu active and allow you the time to read over the selections available. Choose Command Prompt Only from the menu. You will then be in Pure DOS.

Type this exactly as shown, pressing Enter after each line.

attrib -s -h recycled

del recycled

Restart the computer.

If that does not fix it try typing this:

cd recycled

attrib -h inf*

del info

John,

If I remember correctly you use Windows ME, correct?

If so you will have to use a startup diskette to reach pure DOS.

This diskette can be created on the last tab of add/remove programs.

Hi, Thanks to you all, very helpful, I did try the F8 and realised the Command was not there. I shall print out this info and keep it.
I think I have found out the reason for this occurence.
I have very recently got an upgrade for Window washer and I had it to empty the Recycle bin. When I did the run last night it appears that it also deleted the Desktop.ini that is supposed to reside in the recycled folder. I used GoBack to revert to just before Window washer and the Bin is now working ok.
Before all this I did create a desktop.ini as mentioned in the microsoft help (from you Amie) and placed it in the Recycled folder and this allowed it to function ok, but when I then emptied the bin it also deleted the ini file.
But now the bin is working properly (with GoBack) I cannot see the ini file yet it must be there as it functions ok. Where is it. I untick the hidden files and still cannot find it.

I just checked, I do not have a desktop.ini in my Recycle bin either, but hey if it works, who cares. :D

Hello Amie,Here is the file that was deleted last night and it seems to be necessary. It must be in the folder but just not showing! I am of a questioning nature and must find it.(try & find it!)
