I am using Windows XP, OE, IE Zone Alarm (free) & Norton's 2003 Anti-virus

Every time I turn the computer on the Norton's Anti-virus on my taskbar has a big red X accross it and I have to enable it everytime. Was wondering if there is something I can do to correct this.
Thanking you in advance

Welcome to MPC

I have Norton System Works 2003, but I believe your settings are the same as mine for the anti-virus. Go to the options and make sure you have the two items selected that I have underlined in my attachment.

Go into Norton AV and check your options to make sure you have Auto Protect enabled.

Thanks Amie and Ranger Bob, my Norton's is enabled on the Auto-Protect. I have checked it several times and it always shows enabled. I run a liveupdate twice a day and always make sure everything is enabled.

Have a read through of this Norton article on your problem:

Auto-Protect is disabled on startup (http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001110713394806?Open&src=&docid=1997121131456&nsf=nav.nsf&view=8d071816eedd7cac88256c0e005a96e5/84953e4d6ab65f54882565600074b968?opendocument&prod=norton%20antivirus&ver=2003%20for%20windows%202000/me/98&dtype=&prod=Norton%20AntiVirus&ver=2003%20for%20Windows%202000/Me/98/XP&osv=&osv_lvl=)

I know it says 2002, but it is still relevant.

Since you have the most recent version of Norton A/V you should have free email support available to you. Go to the Symantec site and take advantage of it while you can. I have an old version (2001) and have never had to reinstall Norton to fix any problems. It has been extremely reliable and always loads enabled.

I have renewed my subscription to virus definitions twice and plan to again next year, if they let me.
