I've spent the last 2 weeks of a LOT of hard work and frustration on a pic for a Graphic Challenge without using PSP and for some reason I can't load it up to the MSN Graphic Site. It's too big. I've resized it to the size allowable but then it's too small too see. The other people using PSP are able too upload full page size pics but I think because I'm using ImageMagick and Gifworks my finished pic ends up with too many pixels (is that what you call them?). I'm only guessing at this. Can you think of ANY solution to this?? I've worked so darn hard on this and now I can't show it.  I've added the resized pic here for you to see what it's all about. I couldn't even get the smaller pic uploaded here, I had to use the Bucket. Maybe, the animation is the problem. Please tell me what you think :linda: I sure hope you're home 'cause I have to have it uploaded by Sat. :hammer:

Nanci, can you send it to my email? I'm having some problems trying to view the frames. :hammer:

Nanci, I couldn't even get it to upload in animation shop. There must be a ton of frames. You've got animation on both sides of the image.

If you stop the animation, of course the file size drops dramatically and then can be viewed.

Is there anyway that you can upload it to the group like you have here? :hammer:

*Edit - Nanci, I did get it to load at Imagemagick and it has 13 frames! Can you use it in the contest non-animated? Or take some of the frames out?

Sorry I didn't post back to you sooner than this Linda. I haven't even been looking at my mail little own reading the Boards. I'm getting so much into this graphic business that I've started to ignore everything else.

I did end up posting the pic as you see in my previous post here. Not really big enough to see but I certainly wasn't expecting to have a better graphic than most others anyway. I could have stopped the animation but since I didn't do much else to the room (which was empty to begin with) I figured my animations would make up for it. Hence too many :hammer:
Awww well, I enjoy playing around and learning.

I have one more questions for you:
Where can I go to get a ton more tranparent glitter stars and such. Everything I've found so far is for PSP and I can't use.

That's it for now Linda and thanks tons for your time. Sure hope your move is getting closer to the end so you can relax.

Nanci, here is a site that has a lot of neat stuff - http://www.wtv-zone.com/scri8e/STARS/

Just click on each category and then click on the options underneath each parent directory.

Linda, That's exactly what I wanted!!! :thumb: I've done many searches in the past and couldn't find anything like I needed.

I can't thank you enough for all your help to me and just being there :linda:
I'll try not to continue being too much of a nuisance.
YOu have a great day!

Nanci, you are very welcome and please know that you're never a nuisance! Actually you have given me ideas for more tutorials to write - as you can see from our latest tutorial.

Welllllll in that case :tongue2: my next question is: where can I find transparent smoke? I need smoke to add to a chimney on a pic I'm making.
I've searched but I came up with nothing. I'm never to sure how to word a search for stuff like this.

Thanks tons in advance :linda:

Oh yeah!!....This morning I've been trying to make a transparent "good morning" in two lines. I managed to find a place that does tranparents in two lines but it doesn't seem to be working out for me. I get it made and then I can't add glitter to it properly. The glitter fills up the whole banner! I even took it to Gifworks to crop but that still didn't help. As you can see again, I don't have a clue to what I'm doing. It's always trial and error for me and then I come screaming for help from you. Aren't you lucky

This is a png file of transparent smoke, but as to how you would use it, I have no idea. :)

Pretty smoke Amie! If I were going to use it, I'd first take it to Irfanview and change it to a gif or jpeg. Then I'd take it somewhere like Gifworks or Myimager and crop out all but one smoke image and then you're all set to place it atop the chimney! :jig:

If you want some smoke that is animated - here is one that I worked on. Now remember, it can be slowed down or made faster - and I wasn't sure on the size that you needed -

Also about your other image and the glitter - can you post it or send it to my email and I'll check it out!

Nanci, I have to go out of town until Friday - so, I won't be around. :hammer:

I just wanted you to know that I have an upcoming tutorial that sounds perfect for your problem with your glitter. I'll check back here before I leave to see if you have posted the image - if it's not here - I'll check when I get back Friday night.

The tutorial is actually two tutorials away from being posted, but if it might help you - I'll give you a "sneak peek"!

Linda, I downloaded your attachment, but there seems to be a problem, all I get is the little blue tick that I see in your post. :?:

Amie, you should see a small column of grey smoke that is moving. It will be the same as what is in the thumbnail attachment as it is actually that size. I just right clicked on the thumbnail and saved it and it worked for me.

This is all I see both in your post and when I download it. :( perhaps it is something to do with Firefox.

How strange! I bet you're right - it's probably Firefox!

Here is what it should look like - only it is animated in the thumbnail -

Well, I'm leaving now - so, I'll see everybody sometime Friday . . . I hope! :hi:

It gets even stranger, I could see the smoke in IE, then when I came back on FF and refreshed the page I could see it here too. :)

Thanks to both of you for your smoke :linda: I'll be able to use it!

Linda, It's not the glitter I'm having a problem with, it's making a transparent "Good Morning" in two lines. I made a banner using this place http://ult-tex.net/tools/ultra/banner_maker.pl
and came up with the attached.

When I add glitter to it it fills up the whole page even after I've taken it to Gifworks to crop. I'm trying to figure out how to just add glitter to the words/letters. I even, as you can see, tried to combine two words but I'm sure not doing something right.

I forgot to ask you if you can tell me where to go to get snowflakes falling that will fill up a whole page. I have snowflakes falling.gifs but I would have to add tons of them to fill the page up. I've attached a pic that I want to add to so you can see what I mean. The one you see will be with the frame I added to it but I do have a copy saved without the frame that I can work with before adding the frame again.

Nanci, I can't get IE to work at all! It won't load any pages. When I tried to view your thumbnail through Opera, it won't let me save it.

Tell you what . . . it's late and the computer must be tired! HeeHee! So, I'm going to shut it down for the night and we'll try again tomorrow.

One thing though - on your image that is animated - if you try to add snow with the "free" imaging sites, it will probably not "behave" properly. I usually stop one of the animations and then add the one that I really want.

I'll check back in the morning and maybe the computer will cooperate!

Hi Linda,
I also have the pic saved with the frame not animated just so I could add the snow.
I hope your computer is running better today :amie:

You have a great day!

Nanci, I finally got the images saved - but, the computer is still giving me trouble. I'll have to post in the PC forum to see if anyone has any suggestions. It's as slow as molasses! :sneak:

I'll post back in a little bit if I can get it working.

Linda

Nanci, I'm still working on my computer problems - but, in the meanwhile I was thinking about your image that you wanted to glitterize. I was wondering why you don't make your writing at the banner generator and then fill it in like in the tutorial for making glitter/sparkle names?

Or you could even go back to where you made your banner and just change the options to "white" for the letters and "transparent" for the background and then use the glitter/sparkle name tutorial and it should work fine.

Linda
10-26-2004, 03:38 PM
Nanci, on your image that you would like to use snow - here are some thoughts. I know that you are wanting to use the "free" sites to do this so there will be more of a challenge involved.

The trick with this will be to only use a non-animated image to put the snow on and then to use a snow with a minimal amount of frames.

The more elegant snow is comprised of way too many frames to try and do what you are wanting. And the fewer frames of snow will give you sometimes a jerky movement.

However, I did a little free lancing and made you some snow that I think looks pretty good and doesn't have but 5 frames.

When I put it all together, it looks like this - (which is still too big to put in as an attachment)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v33/General1/1Tidy.gif

If you like this, I'll tell you how I did it. I first uploaded the nonanimated image at ImageMagick. Then I composited the snow gif which I will include below. I chose the coordinates of "north" and "in" and "tile across".

Here is the snow -

Almost forgot! If you don't like the way the snow extends beyond the central image and is falling into the gold part - you can always crop off part of the gold that is sticking beyond the image and then the snow will fall into the main image.

Or if you have the picture image without the frame - put the snow on first and then add the gold frame and the snow will stay within the picture.

Since I didn't have the original image without the frame - I couldn't check, but there is a possibility that if you add the snow on the picture first - you "might" be able to add the frame and have it animated as well. Sometimes Imagemagick will work with two animations and sometimes it just won't work. When that happens - just stop the animation of one and then proceed to add the animation (in this case, the snow) that you like.

[QUOTE=Linda] I was wondering why you don't make your writing at the banner generator and then fill it in like in the tutorial for making glitter/sparkle names?

I've done that with lots of other wording Linda but, what I'm trying to do now is make a transparent Good Morning in two lines like this:
Good
Morning

Most places only let you make one line. As I mentioned, I did find a place that allows you more than one line but when I try to add the glitter it won't work. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong :hammer:

Nanci, I thought I'd play around with your Good Morning image.

I went to the site you posted and made the banner. I didn't see where you could actually make the background "transparent" so I chose "black" and then chose "white" for the letters. Then under the other options - I saw a "transparent" option which I chose.

Next I took the image to Imagemagick and uploaded it and then composited some glitter on the image. I used the options of "north", "in" and "tile across" and it came out like this -

Be sure to click on the thumbnail to see how it turned out!

Oh for heavens sake Linda. No wonder I was having problems!! What I was doing, and I do know better, was "north, "AT TOP".....instead of "IN" :hammer:

Thank so much for giving my head a shake. Sheesh, I better slow down when I'm doing something and pay attention to what I'm doing.
