Hi Linda--sorry to bother you 'cause I know you were away for a while. I have a question about "snow" as well. I tried to cover image with the snow you had in your Tutorial for how to make snow globes. I couldn't as "snow" was too small for my image. I could have repeated it; but file was so huge I know it would have made it even larger. Below is the image I put a "wet snow" onto and it worked. Had found this snow on the 'Net and it did cover image. I used Animation Shop. I really like your "finer" snow used in your tutorial. Is there a way I can make it cover image with less frames? Thanks, and the sig I put wet snow into follows--greatly reduced due to size.

Susan, my computer is giving me some trouble. It was fine when I left, but when I returned . . .

I'll try to get back to you today. Don't worry - I think we can fix your image right up!

BTW, could you post the original image without snow? Thanks! :hi:

Susan, also let me know which snow that you liked best.

The snow from your tute, Linda--

Susan, the first thing I saw was that there was a transparent background on the image which needed to be cropped where only the image would show. After I cropped it, I uploaded it to Imagemagick and then composited the snow using these options - "north", "over" and "tile across".

Also, I would put the name on first (if you want one on the image) before you apply the snow! :jig:

I couldn't tell for sure which snow you liked in the tutorial and this browser wouldn't let me view and save the one you posted - so, if you would prefer a different snow - just let me know!

Here's the snow I used -

Thank you Linda--saved the image and your snow. The snow I had posted is there; just can't see it. I had added a black background to the wolf image, I thought--in addition to the black background already there. Had to make more space for the name.

Susan, the background that I saw was transparent and made the snow go off the image.

I'm wondering if maybe I didn't have the "original" and you were working with the image after you added the black background and name? :hammer:

I couldn't save your snow from the thumbnail because of having to use this "Opera" browser - which I am thankful right now that I have it. Poor IE has croaked!

I may have to start sending smoke signals or something! :cjlol:

Shoot, forgot to mention that if you put on a larger black background for the name and use the coordinates that I listed above, the snow should work fine! Remember to try and use a snow with the least amount of frames - but enough to make it fall smoothly! Let me know if you need any help with it! :hi:

Hi Linda--below is image with larger black background and snow. Yes, it's possible I posted the wrong image before. Snow isn't as nice as the one you did, but guess it's okay. I know the best would come from using PSP. Thanks--

Susan, you did a great job! What about your snow don't you like?

As for PSP - I like it too. But, I have found that some things come out better using Imagemagick. For instance when you glitter something. You can make a glitter name at Imagemagick and it only takes 3 frames. Try that with PSP's animation shop and gosh - way too many frames which means a bigger file size!

I usually drag an image around all the places doing a little bit to it here and a little bit there.

The snow's effect that I used - I first went to animation shop and made it smaller and slowed it down. Then I went to Imagemagick and put it on the image. :hi:

Very true, Linda--Animation Shop seems to make tons of frames; even for something so simple as a "star." Hello, 27 frames later! I do love the program as A.S. is so simple to use, but how does one choose not to "optimize"? Seems to make the extra frames--

Susan, here is a good site to learn some tricks - http://tutorials.jewelswebgraphics.com/opt_wizard.html

Although the amount of frames adds to the file size - being able to do things as you are building the animation - can decrease the file size. For instance using a transparency vs a color background increases the file size.

The way that I use AS, there are only the frames in it that I choose. When do these extra frames appear? I'm confused (which is easy to do to me!)

Thanks for the link, Linda--so much I have to learn in Animation Shop! What it was--add a little blinking "star" to say, a cat graphic to make eyes sparkle. Now I use the site where there are all those "star" images. Some of them, however, have a huge amount of frames. I don't really know how to reduce the frames w/o messing up the animation. I'll just use one w/o so many frames, I guess. I'm more confused!--Susan

Susan, if I can help you out with anything - just let me know. Sometimes in those animations where the frames are out of hand, I have pulled out as many as possible and it's surprising that you can sometimes do that and still have enough of an effect or sparkle - and think of all that file size you save!

Thanks Linda--I'll try what you've suggested and pull out some frames!
