Now I don't know what has happened. I was trying to uninstall Norton and was prompted to restart.
A blue screen came up with:
Windows
An exception OE has occurred at 0028:C0031A54 in VxD_ _ _, This was called from 0028:C00301F9 in VxD_ _ _, It may be possible to continue normally. Press any key to attempt to continue. Press Ctrl+Alt+Dele to restart.
I did ctrl, alt , dele, my computer did restart but now when I go to start, shutdown nothing comes up, it's gone.
Lady
Try this,
Reboot your computer. As it is booting back up tap the f8 key repeatedly until a page comes up with options on it then choose Command Prompt from the Options menu, by pressing the relevant numbered key on your keyboard.
Once in command Prompt >
type
scanreg /restore
Then press the Enter key
Using the arrow keys on your keyboard highlight an entry with a date previous to your problem, which has the word Started against it. Then press Enter.
When you receive notification that you have restored a properly working registry, press ENTER to restart your computer, into windows.

Hi ladyLuck
Yes I would delete it.You might also want to go to start > search or find > and type Norton and have it search on your C: drive and delete everything that comes up,if you feel comfortable in the registry you can do the same by going to > start > run > and type without quotes "regedit" when the menu pops up go to EDIT > FIND and type Norton and delete the entry, hit F3 for more searches and delete, till it says finished searching registry.

Cleaned everything out. Tried to install NAV. This error message came up
Error
25013.setup is unable to load the migration dll.
Any idea how to fix this. I never had this problem installing NAV

Are you using Norton AntiVirus Corporate Edition 7.5

This is for if your running Corporate Edition
Open Windows Explorer, navigate to the Windows Temp folder, and then delete all files and subfolders found.
Navigate to the NAV folder, and then delete it.
Click Start, and then click Run.
Type regedit to open the Registry Editor.
Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\DLLUsage\VP6
Delete the VP6 folder.
Navigate to the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk
Delete the LANDesk folder.
Close the Registry Editor.
Install NAVCE.
NOTE: In some cases, it is necessary to delete the VirusProtect6 entry for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\INTEL\LANDesk

I've never done anything with the registry. I've read that it's kinda scary in there.

Nothing to worry about if you can read and follow directions
I need to know if you are running the Corporate version because there is a difference in the way you uninstall, and work in the registry

Yes I have the corporate Edition 7.51
Is there any other solution?
Lady
Please don't be frightened of the registry, when I first got my computer 4 years ago, I felt the same as you, but now I have learned that there are many, many occasions when editing the registry is the only way to fix some things. I have made probably hundreds of changes in my registry and never once caused any problems to my computer.
As long as you take it slowly the first few times, follow the instructions, and make sure they are from someone or somewhere you can trust. I can personally vouch for sixpac, he is a very clever guy.
If you would like to back up your registry before you start, just go to Start > Run and type Scanreg you will be asked if you would like to back up, just click Yes.

Sixpac, I am to follow your instructions with the corporate edition, Correct?.
Amie thanks for the encouragement. Could one of you come to my house and sit by my side?
Will I have any trouble finding all this in the registry?
Should I do the following anyway so I don't have to go back.?
"NOTE: In some cases, it is necessary to delete the VirusProtect6 entry for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\INTEL\LANDesk"
How would I close the Registry Editor?
Please excuse me for asking all these questions. This is all new to me.

Lady
You should have no problems finding the necessary entries, let's start with the first one:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\DLLUsage\VP6
When Regedit opens you will see the entry for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
just click the + to the left of it to expand the entry for that key. Then scroll down until you find the SOFTWARE entry and click the + next to that, next look for the INTEL entry click the + carry on like this until you get to the VP6 folder, right click on that and select Delete.
When you have finished, just close Regedit like any other program, by clicking the X at the top right on the Toolbar.
As for you asking all these questions, that is what we are here for, what would I do all day without people to help :D

Amie, am I correct in saying that I will be deleting two items in the registry?
Lady
Yes you need to delete the entries for;
the VP6 folder.
and the
the LANDesk folder
By the way I would glady come and do this for you in 2 minutes, but suspect that you are a long way from me. :D

Delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\DLLUsage\VP6
Delete
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk
Are these two the same or two different items?
VirusProtect6 entry for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\DLLUsage\VP6
What is the worst that will happen if I mess up? Will reformatimg fix my goof up?

There is absolutely no way that deleting these 2 registry entries would cause any problems with your computer. They were put there by Norton, and need to be removed before you can install your new version.
If you ever did anything in the registry which did cause a minor problem, then it is just a simple matter of doing a registry restore, which takes about 2 minutes, and takes you back to before you edited it.
Just read sixpac's post again, perhaps copy and paste it into a text file and print it out, so you can refer to it, if necessary.

No problem.
No those are two different entries;
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\DLLUsage\VP6
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\INTEL\LANDesk\VP6
Why not have a look in your registry and see which entries you have at these locations, you might not have both of them.

Sorry I had to leave the house unexpectedly, how are things going
Amie thanks for covering my butt, and the trust.I hope she's ok
Hi Sixpac
I knew you wouldn't mind me stepping in, as Lady needed some reassurance and some explanations. She has not been back yet, so hope she has gathered her courage and carried out your instructions, and managed to install her program successfully.
We will have to wait and see.
Amie :amie:
Edit Just found Lady's other post where she said all had gone well, and Norton is now reinstalled. Great news. :)
