Is there a good registry cleaner to clean up duplicate files that are in the registry? What I am trying to do is delete unnecessary things in my computer and gain back some space and resources. Just doing some so to speak house cleaning

If you aren't getting registry errors, it would probably be best not to use a registry cleaner, the registry isn't very large and it won't save you much space at all to delete registry entries.
There are "disk cleaners" that might free up some space, but using the built in disk cleanup program that comes with Windows does a fair job of getting rid of useless files, and some disk cleaners can be dangerous. I use one, but I hesitate to recommend it, because I know of one person whose system has been negatively impacted by it. Computers differ a lot one to another even with similar or the same operating systems.
Deleting duplicate files can be dangerous too, sometimes files must be in two or more different locations for programs to function correctly.
You can limit the amount of space that System Restore is allowed to use (it can take up to 12% of your drive if you don't limit it), right click my computer>properties>performance tab>file system button. I used to have mine limited to 200MB, which is around two weeks of backups, until I disabled System Restore.

Are you having performance problems? Depending on how much RAM you have installed with Windows XP Pro resources should not be that big a problem.
