Trying to use Imagemagick

I have been trying to use the imagemagick.In order to use a white background so I can add a sig to it.But for several days now when I click on browse and then find my white background then click on view it just sits there or a window comes up (this page cannot be displayed).
It has been a long time since I used this am I forgetting a step??

Well, for one thing Image Magick was having a problem yesterday, I think it was, or the day before. It was making me nuts. Also remember you will not see anything when your white back comes up. Linda is the one who knows best about this stuff.

Yes I know I have used it before but it has been awhile.But all I get now is (this page can not be displayed)it is has though I was not on line.And I know I am on line because everything else is working.Is there one of the other programs I can use to put a background on then my signature.Then after I have it like I want I then take it in to gifworks and remove the background.
