View Full Version : Optimising and not optimising

This is probably very simple but it's driving me up the wall. Can anyone help me?

How do I stop an animation being optimised when I'm saving it from AnimationShop?

The optimisation wizard automatically kicks in and the result I get isn't what I want.

I have never used this program, so my reply might be completely useless, but I found this.

Animation Shop offers you four levels of optimisation as indicated by the Better Image Quality vs. Smaller File Size slider button . In case you want to change the default optimisation settings, click on the Customize button. Select the optimisation settings you want to use and click Next.

Have you tried the Customize button, perhaps you can change something there.

Found this tutorial too.

Yes I've been through all the variants in the customisation but nothing helps. I get changes I don't want. I'd just like to switch the wretched thing off. I'll have a quick look at that tut.

Can you describe or post a picture of what you are getting as an end result versus what you would like? :hammer:

I can post you what I'm getting but I can't post you what I would like because the minute I try to save it it gets optimised to something I don't want. :(

I'd just like a way to turn off the optimisation wizard.

You can't turn off the optimization because it's a part of the save-this-animation process; the 2nd screen of that process (using the wizard disguises these) has a bunch of things you can change, like number of colors to use (256, 128, 64, 32, 16, 2), if you want non-visible info saved with the image, etc., and you have to choose which options you want or the program will choose for you. If there's an optimization wizard, there's also a non-wizard way to get the effects you want; it's gotta be in the help file.

Maybe you should uninstall and then reinstall animation shop, and then its "choices" about those "optimizations" will go back to the defaults.

This is a screen capture of two animations. The one on the right has been saved. Before I saved it it looked like the one on the left without the black outline to it. The optimising changed it and put in the black outline.

I'll have a look and see if there is a default setting.

Aha! Yes, I know exactly what you're talking about! Check out my settings below and see if it will save differently for you.

On the first page - click on "customize" to get to the other two pages. Make sure your settings are set to the same as mine and then keep clicking "next" and then "finish".

Linda, do you know what (kind of) setting causes the black outline?

Thank you Linda. :)

I'll have another go later on today if I can find time. I'm a bit rushed at present trying to do a million and one things, :hairpull:getting married on Saturday.

Linda, do you know what (kind of) setting causes the black outline?

It could be a couple of things. Sometimes the color closest to the pallette has not been chosen. It may have "black" listed instead and will then pick up the black edging. Sometimes I have seen that some adjusting has to be done in converting to pixels - but, it usually can be fixed by adjusting the color.

With the bird image that Willow posted - it is not animated - is was just one frame, so I couldn't pull up the next screen that I'm showing below from her image. Her image though was animated as it contained several frames so I'm hoping that adjusting the options below will fix it. When you have an animated image, you should also have this other tab -

The first thing to try is the settings as I have them in my image. Most important - make sure that the "Yes, blend with this color" option is not selected with "black"! If you need that option - choose "white" instead. But first, try using the bottom option of "No, use the exisiting . . . " If that doesn't fix it - then choose the "Yes, blend with this color" and change to white.

If that doesn't fix it - move on up to the "convert pixels" and change that number to different settings. Then click okay and go on clicking "next" until you get to the last page which will show you the result before you click "finish". If it isn't the way that you want it, click the back button and then readjust the settings until the problem is resolved.

Hope this helps!

Congratulations Willow! I can well imagine you have a very busy schedule right now. Don't worry - we'll be here when you return! :linda:

Thanks, Linda! I've never encountered the black, and have changed the default settings (not w wizard) to fewer colors & no not-visible stuff only when I needed to reduce the file size. Someday I will try to understand "palettes". . .

Please forgive me for never coming back to you on this. A wedding and a honeymoon and I completely forgot that I'd been trying to do this! I must play about with this again if I can even find the animation and see if I can get it right. Thank you for your suggestions.
