steely
-- we called our favorite metal shooters (marbles) steelies. They were actually stainless steel ball bearings that we salvaged from dead washing machines, engines, anywhere we could break into a ball bearing casing and rescue the gorgeous shiny money makers... we played for pennies and kept our marbles... it was just too devastating to lose one. I wonder if that meaning is going to show up in the dictionary? Or simply something to do with alloys of metal? Or maybe it won't be there at all, and I will have to sit out until Amie wins another one...

clam
I am so hungry for fresh clams. I am so hungry for the clamaraderie of a bunch of friends on the beach having a clambake. I think if I have to endure much more tension lately, it could lead to a real clamity. So I might spend a few clams and take a week at the beach somewhere. East or West? Do you easterners have clam parties, too?
Where you gather up a bunch of goofy people with clambuckets at low tide and fill 'em up with the juicy little bi-valves? Well, I guess I better clam :cjlol: up now...

My Grampa was a shipwright who learned from his Gramps... some of the old ways. Most boats were laid out without blueprints, exactly... it's hard to describe unless you can see it... the main timbers and crossmembers and carlings are laid out and the ship IS the blueprint as you go. I never worked on anything with Gramps bigger than a boat... but the principle is the same for the ships he used to build.
GRRRRRR!!!! Oh well it ain't a victory unless it's a win. (A Yogi Berra-ism I just made up...)

Killing Me Softly With His Song
( Written by N.Gimbel - C.Fox )
Stumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life
With his words
Killing me softly with his song
I heard he sang a good song
I heard he had a style
And so I came to see him to listen for a while
And there he was this young boy,
A stranger to my eyes
Stumming my pain with his fingers
Singing my life with his words
Killing me softly with his song,
Killing me softly with his song
Telling my whole life
With his words
Killing me softly with his song

HeeHaw! Nice sentence.
But I am confused about the song now... It seems now that "fingers" are being used to stum the pain... that implies to me that the guy is making the pain of the girl more intense by touching her? But why? And why is she being killed because he sings a song about her? Aw well, I guess I am doomed to always be mystified about some things. :)

People, please play by the rules!!!
Following the rules just for the sake of adhering to convention is not conducive to successful creativity in later life. And it feels so good to
flagrantly violate the rules in unpleasant places that make ridiculous demands...
So it is good practice to break the rules in places where just fun is involved (here!), especially if it benefits some and hurts no one. :)

proll
Quick definitions (proll) To prowl about; to rob.
That isn't the definition I was expecting...
My "family" when I was a teen was a bad rock band called "Fellow Traveler"
I wrote lyrics and played harmonica and filled in for the real drummer when he missed practice. I also named the band... everybody voted and liked my suggestion best.
But they scolded me... (they were a lot older) when the promotional posters came back... they thought I goofed up the spelling of traveler... not enough "L"s they said.
This hurt my feelings, because I knew I was right... So I never told them about the communist implications of the name.
In the 30s and 40s... the Woody Guthrie days; "Fellow Traveler" was used as a code word for a political leaning to socialism... like comrade was used in the 60s.
Those that cared about such things also called the good guys= the proletariat, the "prolls" and the bad guys= the bourgeoisie the "trolls"
