mores
... this is one of those words that I just can't come to terms with. mo-rays it is pronounced, I think. The set of guiding morals or customs of a culture.
But everybody has an opinion. And most cultures differ more widely among themselves individually than cultures differ among other cultures. So what does it really mean to say something or someone is "different?"
I don't know. It must all be relative.
The usual indistinct and invisible mores brought into the public view for description are usually "shared" or "commonsense" worldviews that are practical applications of unselfishness to benefit the larger social structure.
Therefore things like 'don't foul the water' are shared across every culture; but "wear black at funerals" and "women should sew" are completely arbitrary.
