I have been trying for days to get to a particular website.....www.adobe.com
For some reason I am not able to, it says: The page cannot be displayed.
Does anyone know what could be wrong or what I can do to fix it?
Thanks, Kim

Can you view any other websites? What browser are you using?

Nightly Reader

Try using this instead. It's the actual URL for Adobe.com.

http://192.150.22.119/

No, using the URL didn't work either.
I haven't had any problems viewing any other websites, only adobe.
I am using Avant browser, I also have Internet Explorer and tried there too.....it didn't work there either.
Thanks,
Kim

Just a shot in the dark. Do a search on your computer for a file named Hosts (just that no extension) Open it in note or wordpad and look for an entry for either adobe.com or the http:// address Nightly Reader gave you above. If you find an entry then just right click and delete it.

Also are you using any popup type stopper, which could be blocking this site.

Amie,

I went to start, search, files or folders, and typed in host.......that is what you wanted me to do, right?
There were all kinds of things that came up when I typed in host, is there one inparticular that I am looking for?

Thanks,
Kim

The file you need is called Hosts there is nothing else to the name, no file extension etc. It should be in your C:\Windows\System folder. You might have other files called Hosts.sam or LmHosts.sam, but these are just sample files and not active.

I found two files: Hosts....and hosts. The first one had a little bit of information in it, the second......said it had 438 bytes in it, but I wasn't able to see anything. What does this mean?
Thanks,
Kim

I thought the Avant Pop up stopper might be your problem but I tried the url above in Avant and it worked fine for me. You can open the host file with Notepad so you can see what is inside it. You should be able to right click on it and select Notepad in the right click context menu.

I tried that and nothing showed up

You could rename both files to something like Host.bak and host.bak and then reboot the PC to see if that helps but before doing that lets take a look at IE. Go to IE Tools/Internet Options/Security/Restricted Sites/Sites and see if these two urls are in the list. If they are remove them.

I didn't understand what renaming a file would do, but I did it, when I opened it in wordpad, nothing showed up.
I also went to internet options to see if the urls were in the restricted zone, but they are not.
Can you think of anything else that I could try?
Thanks,
Kim

When you renamed the files and rebooted it should have created empty files so if anything was in them that was causing a problem it will not be in the new file.

Have you tried using IE to see if you can get to either url instead of Avant?

yes, I already tried IE, that didn't work either.

I'm afraid I don't know what else to suggest. About the only thing left to do is to contact your ISP and see if they may be blocking these urls for some reason.
