My favorite browser! :bd:
http://www.opera.com/pressreleases/en/2003/09/23
I highly recommend this version over all old versions of Opera. It is faster than any of my browsers and the 7.11 version.
They fixed issues with scrolling and animation in signatures and most importantly, I now do not have to sign in to this site anymore. :bd:

Not cheap at $39 when MyIE2 is free. I believe the freeware has adverts!

I didn't buy it. You only buy it if you want to get rid of the advertising on the toolbar and there are ways around covering them up. Using Noopads (http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/noopads/).
Opera is a standalone browser and doesn't need I.E. to function. MyIE2, is my favorite I.E. add on browser, but it's not a real standalone browser.

>>but it's not a real standalone browser.<<
Plans are in the making to make it a standalone browser as IE7 will not be supported by any OS other then Longhorn.
Hey Crockett, do I need to delete the old Opera, and start from scratch? I use it for a site with a lot of graphics, that is slow with IE, even with cable.

I did....I first backed up all my themes, 2 plugins (Flash and Shockwave Flash), my bookmarks (opera6.adr), my saved Sessions (Startup group) my wand.dat and my toolbar.ini files. I put these aside in another holding folder.
Then I deleted the program through Add/Remove and deleted everything else left behind, including the C:\Program Files\Opera folder and the profile folder found in C:|Documents and Settings\User Name\Application Data \Opera.
Then I ran the installer and added back those saved files so it remembered all my settings. Usually I do the cookies too, but the cookie management in the new one was slightly different, so I elected to start from scratch.
I always prefer clean installs like this, but if you're using Opera 7.11, you can probably just delete through add/remove then let it install on top of what's left behind.
....or these guys said it was ok to install over top (without 7.11 running) in this Opera Forum thread:
http://my.opera.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=32027 (http://my.opera.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=32027)
I guess all will work.

Greetings!
Super-Duper Screaming Opera 7.20!!
I've been an Opera user for years! And it keeps on getting better and better! And faster and faster! Easy to customize! Tons of nice features! Tabs are great and Mouse gestures are just outstanding. Nice.
The Opera browser is fast, secure and user-friendly.
Opera 7.20 for Windows introduces unprecedented speed boost.

Firebird? Still a little clumbsy. Must edit scripts to achieve optimized customization. Not as fast as Opera.
My IE works . . . but its spooky. The shell "browsers" that use IE core are just as spooky. Read:
My God, it just never ends.
This unending parade of security flaws will never stop. Between ActiveX, Microsoft-hacked Java, and HTA scripting, Internet Explorer is nothing but a collection of security flaws that loads web pages as an afterthought. Now they can't even do a proper job of patching the vulnerabilities they know that exist.
Do you want to know how to be completely safe from these security flaws? Do you want to know how to be 100% safe from driveby malware that installs right through the browser? The answer is very simple: use a real browser, not a web browsing extension tied to a Microsoft operating system.

I'm not being sarcastic. I am dead serious. Internet Explorer is not safe, except for when the most draconian precautions are taken. It is a bare bones, featureless browser that doesn't even provide tabbed browsing.

If you have never installed Mozilla or Opera before, you need to get the one with java. It uses a different one than I.E.

Good luck John...here are some of my tips for this browser:
Run the browser then go to Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks and click on Import | (Your Choice) I.E.
Once that's done, before you do anything else, go to File | Preferences, and tweak the browser the way you like it to be.
There is no ActiveX to worry about.
You'll probably want to install a few plugins like Macromedia Flash and Shockwave Flash.
Important settings at first are under File | Preferences:
*Windows...open requested pop-ups only
*Network ...identify as MSIE 6.0
*Privacy....enable cookies and change 3rd party cookies to "Refuse all without question"
For Normal cookies....at first put it on "Display in dialog box with multiple choice" and go to all the sites where you need to give a cookie (where you signed up for something) and allow them a cookie.
Once all these sites have their cookie and you are signed in, change this setting to "Treat as specified in Server Manager".
Also under that tab, check off beside "Dispaly warning for Illegal domains and paths".
*Default application...I leave this all blank as I don't want Opera to take over any file association and leave IE as my default browser, but that's just my personal thing.
* Start and Exit...I check off with saved session...I have 6 tabs that I want to open each time I start my browser. You can save a session under [b]File | Sessions | Save Session.
After that, it's pretty much just making it fun and easy. Get some skins here: Opera Skins (http://my.opera.com/customize/)
You can drag and drop favorites up to your Personal Bar for quick access.
Oh ya, if you don't want to see those ads and you don't want to buy Opera, then you can get something like Noopads (http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/noopads/)
Using Noopads:
Right click on an empty spot (I think you can fit 12 spots) and a little window like the one in my attachment will pop up.
This one example is for MWSnap.
Click on the icon to the right of the Program Path window to browse for the path of the app you want to put in there.
Mine is C:\Program Files\MWSnap\MWSnap.exe
Skip a window and go to Icon File and again click on the icon to the right of that window and browse to find the icon file. (It's usually the same path)
Click on "Save" and voila!
Repeat 11 more times.

Many thanks for your help Crockett I shall soon be trying it out. Can you get links in emails to open up Opera instead of the IE program? I had that problem with MyIE2, it would always open up IE.

Thanks Crockett, I was thinking more of links to web pages. Have not really had the time to experiment as yet.

Hello Crocket,, downloaded Opera and got the macromedia flash and shockwave , and the browser seems to be working pretty good,, it is the operator that is not working well at all.. first question,, how do you get opera to show tabs,, I can only get one site at a time on the top any other sites show up on the bottom task bar.. what am i missing,, also tried to set the mail up to get my hotmail,, but keep getting a message about a server error,, so i am stuck as usual,,, oh yes,, my crazy browser now has all little "o's " next to everything like links and favorites and i have ie set as default,, any idea why this happened,, it is not a problem because if i can get opera to work the way i want it to i will uninstall crazy too,, one other thing,, i don't know if you know anything about virtual world or not but i got to 2 sites that are 3d ( oddessey.org and 3dplanets.com) that use a plugin called blaxxun contact which is a java appelet i believe,, i have downloaded one for ie and crazy (works with either browser) but when I downloaded from opera the program will not allow me to get into 3d.. its like the down load didn't work but it sure is on the computer.. Do you think I need to download Netscape to make Opera function with this program.. I know this is a lot to ask ,, but hopefully you can lead me in the right direction. Thanks in advance Gem :amie:

how do you get opera to show tabs,, I can only get one site at a time on the top any other sites show up on the bottom task bar.. what am i missing,,
View | Page Bar | Top will put everything at the top.
Right-click on any tab and choose "New page" to open another tab.
also tried to set the mail up to get my hotmail,, but keep getting a message about a server error,, so i am stuck as usual,,,
I'm sorry, but I only use the browser and not the mail part of the program. I still use my Outlook to receive/send mail.
oh yes,, my crazy browser now has all little "o's " next to everything like links and favorites and i have ie set as default,, any idea why this happened,, it is not a problem because if i can get opera to work the way i want it to i will uninstall crazy too,,
That is the Opera favicon. If any website has it's own favicon on their website, Opera will incorporate those on your tabs. If not, you get their generic one.
Here's a tip to display these thingees:
Enable favicons (site-specific icons that display in the address bar and the page tab when the site loads):
Preferences/Multimedia/Show embedded icons
or
Add the following lines to the opera6.ini file in your profile folder:
[Multimedia]
Always load favicon=1
*(this file will open in Notepad)*
one other thing,, i don't know if you know anything about virtual world or not but i got to 2 sites that are 3d ( oddessey.org and 3dplanets.com) that use a plugin called blaxxun contact which is a java appelet i believe,, i have downloaded one for ie and crazy (works with either browser) but when I downloaded from opera the program will not allow me to get into 3d.. its like the down load didn't work but it sure is on the computer.. Do you think I need to download Netscape to make Opera function with this program..
I'm not too sure, but is your browser identification set to MSIE 6.0? Are java and javascript enabled when you surf there.
Maybe it's an ActiveX control thing, and Opera doesn't use that crap. I would just open I.E. to surf at those two sites, if all else fails.
John
You're welcome!
A few more tips:
Enable Single Click for Hotlist items
Open the "opera6.ini" file located in your profile folder. Goto the section "[Hotlistwindow]" and add the following line:
Hotlist Single Click=1
Restart Opera for changes to take effect.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Enable scrollbar colors
Add the following line to the opera6.ini file in your profile folder:
Go to the section [User Prefs]and add:
Enable Scrollbar Colors=1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Have a right-click "Delete entire cache" menu item
Find and open standard_menu.ini and add
Item, 54493 = Delete private data
to the section right under
Submenu, 162000, Quick Preferences Menu = Show popup menu, "Quick Preferences Menu"
Item, 50394 = Show preferences, -1
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[b]Opera crashes on certain sites using Java, slow performance, lags.
JRE 1.4.1_02 and 1.4.1_03 is unstable with Opera on some systems. Uninstall this version of JRE and downgrade it to a latest stable one.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THANK YOU , :bd: THANK YOU I would never figured all that out,, printed it and got the tabs to work,, :hugs: just have to find the profile file,, I think i have to go to search and files and folders,, will give that a try first and if I get stuck you can be sure I will post again,,, I do believe your right about the active x thing,, will use crazy browser for that program.. Thanks for the help Crocket, :king: Gem :amie:

Just do a search for opera6.ini
Mine is found in C:\Program Files\Opera7\Profiles
