Thank you Ken, but...
Oh no... my advantage in chess is not orthodx logic at all;
I suck at puzzles, which has always been a hardship for me as a math educator.
My erratic style; using many gambits and taking many risks leads me to
finding weakness in the opponent's strategy... while holding back experience in desperation defense... therefore: I need a mostly human opponent. :wink: Or I am lousy. But I am almost undefeatable in a bar room atmosphere.
I started an interesting study once; but the results were inconclusive because my sample size was too small... 7 pairs of chessplayers;
moving left-handed if they were right-handed and vice-versa. (to test for crossover intuition from the right brain controling motor movements and the 'verbal' side of the brain that right-handers usually utilize when grasping the pieces right-handed.
There was a slight; but non-significant increase in wins over a control group of only seven... too small to get a reliable judge of the deviation from expectations.
edit: Now that I think more about it; there are several folks right here in this forum...
I believe they are just hobbyists, but they have a firmer grasp of some of the math involved in mathematical number theory type fun than I do... and I lectured the practicum at university. My strength is how I teach the little I know so others with more talent can skip some steps perhaps; or travel a slightly different path and get there first. :)
But the rewards are there for a guy like me. I see the spark in people's eyes where there warn't none before sometimes. life is sweet.
