I am so tired of looking at the same post for over a month that I just had to post something. So, what is new at MPC. I really don't know of any earth shattering events that have taken place but we could always start with we have new members. Maybe all new members should be required to make a post in this section so all will know when someone has joined.

Something old that needs some help is the chat room. I have never really used it until recently. Maybe we could start an effort to get more users to try it. It really is fun when a lot of people are there. I am just guessing on that because I have only had one other person there while I was there.

We could also start a push for more photos in the POTM contest. I only saw a couple of them there today. You really don't want me to start posting all my pictures of my grandkids there!! I have several thousand, people, so be warned. If it gets much worse I will have to take photos of myself and post them. Trust me on this, you really don't want that to happen!!!

Does anyone else have any new events that need to be posted? Think hard.

You are right, this section of MPC is not used very often, maybe we could make more announcements about the POTM and new tutorials by Linda etc. As for new members being required to post, I know many people join and read for a long time before making their first post, as I have done the same on lots of forums over the years, and I would not want to put anyone under any pressure to post if they did not wish to for whatever reason.

Our chat room used to be very lively, and I have spent hours there laughing until it brought tears to my eyes. Bruce used to post reminders both here and at WS (another forum many of our members belong to) and I am not completely sure why attendance dropped (though I do have an idea, I will not post it in public).

I wonder if the number of entries for our POTM is down because WS started their own competition this month, and they offer a prize, which we can not match, of a voucher to be spent in their online software store.

Amie, do you think this would make much difference? We have not had that many entries for a while now and theirs is very new. I am sure there must be heaps of members with pictures worth entering. But even if not I wish more would simply post their efforts in the Digital Mania Forum. Grandchildren are very welcome John :)
I agree new members sould not be expected to make a post as it could scare many away. Perhaps a Welcome to each new member in this section ?
Although it is mentioned at the bottom of the page unless you are looking it can be missed.
We could do with something new in the Games Room also so if anyone has any new game ideas please post them there with an explanation on how to play etc.

I agree that requiring new members to post is not always good. Most sites that I go to I read for a few days, months before I ever join. Actually I only belong to about 6 forums and am active in 2 - 3 on a regular basis. It is a requirement on some sites and I can not really see a purpose to it. Eve's suggestion is probably the best about a welcome post.

I was joking about posting all of my pictures of my grandkids, I several thousand due to digital cameras. I have one and both my sons have them and we share photos.

I think it would be a good idea to post the announcement of new tuts. I know Linda does them on graphics, something I am not interested in so I don't know how many or how often she does them but if it is on a regular basis it would be worth posting so everyone would know. POTM annoucements should be posted here along with any surveys that are started.

Have you thought about changing the design of the web page? I know, big thing. But what about if this section would be posted at the very beginning (top). I think it should be in the very first section. I used this forum a long time before I ever went to the home page. I saw no reason to go there and once I did I found that I tend not to go back. The forum is the big thing to me. I know that a lot of stuff is posted in "The Water Cooler" but honestly I stayed away from it. I am not real big on socializing. I wanted help and I wanted to read about how to do stuff. From other forums I was leery of being to social. Leads to a lot of arguments etc on some sites. This is not true here but it took me a long time to find that out.

Chat room to me is confusing. I have gone there the last couple of times but because we are scattered all over the world it is hard to know when someone is going to be there. I think I talked about this in another post.

Amie, I would post a photo of myself but since I am so old most of me has faded away and the photo would just be a blur :cjlol: :cjlol:

Please don't get me wrong when I criticize or question why something is the way it is. I really enjoy this forum and just what it to be as good as possible. I have begun to spend a lot of time here and really enjoy it.

From other forums I was leery of being too social. Leads to a lot of arguments etc on some sites. This is not true here but it took me a long time to find that out.

Please don't get me wrong when I criticize or question why something is the way it is. I really enjoy this forum and just what it to be as good as possible. I have begun to spend a lot of time here and really enjoy it.

John, you observations, insights, comments and suggestions, are not only exceedingly welcome, but they are of great value because in some ways you are seeing things with "fresh" eyes, unlike myself and some of the other members who have been here since the beginning, and maybe are so used to the way things are, we don't think of changing them, when they could be improved.

I am delighted you ventured into the Water Cooler, and found out how friendly we all are. I agree about other sites, which seem to allow insults and fighting all the time, like one very well known one I could think of. That sort of behaviour has only happened here on exceedingly rare occasions, and has been dealt with swiftly.

As for moving the News and Announcements to the top, that can be done, but I would have to do some research to make sure it happened in all our various skins. How about if we added it to the Welcome to MPC section.

Ok, so I don't express myself very well. That was were I meant it should go. :thumbs: I am not for sure but I would bet that most people have the forum bookmarked and come straight here. That was why I suggested that it be moved, so it is seen by everyone who comes to the forums.

I think it is awesome!! I clicked on my bookmark and it hit me right away. Hey, she moved it already. I think it is in the best place. Should be up top where everyone can notice it.

I do have a question though. I was thinking about what Eve said about rewards for POTM. I went to WS ( I went there a few times awhile back when I saw it mentioned on this forum and didn't care for it). I took a look at what he is selling in the way of software. I get the feeling his site is about sales. He appears to be a store front with a forum. Am I being harsh. I don't visit there so I am giving my opinion of what I saw when I went there today. I don't think we want to get into selling stuff do we? I don't. Maybe we could find something else to give away for a prize. I have no thoughts on what it could be.

Thank you John for you appreciation. You have summed WS up pretty well in all it's aspects. I have been a member there for over 4 years, and it used to be such a different "nice" forum. MPC was originally set up as an alternative, when a group of us wanted to get away from all the fighting and bad feeling going on there, which I am sad to say has got worse not better since.

I too have no idea of anything we could give as a prize for our POTM, membership here is free, and selling software is way beyond our experience. I always hoped that for our members being awarded our gold trophy and knowing their photo was voted the best, was reward enough, and I still think that is true. :)

Where do the winners get announced? should be in this section I think.

I am glad that this forum got started. I really enjoy it. I do wonder what happened to some of the people whose names I used to see. I read Mike's post about leaving, glad Les was there. Anyway, it is good to be here.
