Yippee! I'm on my way. Firebird 0.6 is by far and away the best browser available (that I've tried, anyway) and 0.7 should be even better. Can't wait.

I was deleting files from my old, old Phoenix build so I could try the new Firebird, and I came across a folder named: .jpi_cache

It has 2 subfolders called file and jar... does anyone know what this is? Is it phoenix related? Should I delete it before trying firebird? Thanks if you can help...

It does not look like the new version has these two folders so I would recommend deleting them and letting them sit in the Recycle bin while you make sure Firebird works ok before clearing them out.

I have been eagerly awaiting this new version, since Mike persuaded me to install Firebird.

Just finished downloading the installer, took under 2 minutes.

I have discovered that I have the same problem with the final release of Firebird 0.7 as I had with a nightly build I had downloaded some time age -- SOMETHING is telling the browser to do away with the scroll bars.

I opted to retain the same profile as I had used for 0.6. The only thing that I added to 0.7 was to import the Plugins Folder wholesale from my backup of the 0.6 Program Folder.

I do see that some of the Themes which I had in 0.6 have disappeared -- but the Theme that I use exclusively (Nautipolis 1.5) is still there and according to its entry in Tools that Theme is appropriate for FB 0.7. But for that matter, the default Themes (Mozilla Firebird and Modern) don't show the scrollbars either.

As it happens, I don't mind not seeing scrollbars -- I get an extra eighth of an inch on my 12" screen, and I usually used the up/down buttons anyway. And because, for me anyway, this issue is a "feature" which I actually prefer I probably won't try to troubleshoot it

But, I do wonder why this hiccup is occuring. It is probably a line of code in in prefs.js or userContent.css. I have added many lines to both of those files (to block ads, etc. in userContent.css and to speed up page rendering in prefs.js) but those lines were there when I used 0.6 -- and scrollbars were visible in that version.

Any thoughts?

The theme that I was using has the scrollbar (Mozilla Firebird) ,as does the Skypilot theme. My other 5 themes don't have it.

My problem is I installed a bunch of extensions, and 2 of them say they are installed, but the Flash Click To View and the Pref Buttons 0.2 show up in the Extensions screen like in my screen shot, but the options button is greyed out and they are nowhere on my toolbar???

the scrollbar issue is a theme problem... they changed the browser enough that a couple lines have to be edited in the themes to make them work... Have you tried downloading new versions of these themes? I would try that. Although not every one has been updated yet.

I found my two extensions inside my Customize Toolbar box. :thLt:
Now if I could only get it to remember my font size settings on certain web pages only.
They always go back to 100% once I reload the browser. Some pages that I open as part of a group, I have set to 90% and they always revert back to 100%

>> the scrollbar issue is a theme problem<<

Hmmm. When I run FB 0.7 using the default theme -- and a brand new Profile -- the scrollbars are present and accounted for!

But when I use the Profile I had been using with FB 0.6 in 0.7, no scrollbars -- not even with the default theme. Of course, my "old" profile includes tweaks to prefs.js to speed up page loading, additional lines in userContent.css to block ads, a bunch of cookies, etc., etc.

As I said, I actually PREFER having no scrollbars so this isn't something that I want to mess with. But it doesn't seem to be only an outdated themes issue.

I stand corrected! I downloaded and installed MicroFirebird and Nautilus 1.6 and both show the scrollbars! So I guess it is a themes issue after all. The good thing is that now, if I want scrollbars I can use MicroFireboid or Nautilus and if I don't I can use Nautipolis. I still don't understand why the default themes do not show the scrollbars but both of those themes are too "big" for my itty-bitty monitor anyway -- so I don't really care.

< edit > And another bit of (easily worked around) weirdness. One of my favorite websites is Live365, a collection of internet "radio stations" (in streaming .mp3 format.) However, when I click on "My Presets" there -- nothing! I have to right click and choose "open link in new tab." Not a problem, and this is the only linking issue I have run across so far -- but strange.

< more edit > While I'm being curious -- FB 0.7 seems to load pages even faster than 0.6 or Opera (which is saying something.) Is there a technical reason for this or is this the "wishful thinking" effect at work. I know that GP had posted earlier that the most recent nightlies of Firebird might show improved page loading speed but that 0.7 stable release did not include some of those improvements.

amb... I do agree with the faster rendering... This is running better than the 10/15 nightly build I have installed as well... I've stopped using the 10/15 build and am running 0.7. Every person I've talked to says this milestone feels really snappy!
