Today I had an adventure brought to me via the Geek Squad. Concerning a free program to scan your computer for any and all kinds of virus trogans worms and the like. After 1/2 hour it finished and there wasn't a window to display the results. So, I called them, their answer was simple, if there were no window it just ment my computer was clean. I believe it true because after their scan I ran my own with the AVG 7.5 version for virus. That scan came up clean as well, my question is this. So many people with good intentions say in order to get a proper scan you need to download this program and that program. My impression of the Geek Squad has always been of trust. I just thought i'd share that bit of information and to get any replys that say what I did was wrong, if anything. http://www.mypcclinic.com/forums/images/smilies/smile1.gif

Thank you, one and all,

Lee,

Thanks for sharing that adventure. Did you do something wrong, why would you ask that? Did you get your computer clean and is it safe? Then you definitely did not do anything wrong.

Are you familiar with the adage about opinions. Everyone has a program that is the do all/end all for security. On any given forum there will be differences of opinion as how to best clean a computer. There are a lot of good programs out there and some will work for some people better than others. I can't attempt to explain it but it is kind of like cars, what is the best car made today? Some people love Norton while others hate it. Some will tell you that any program that is free is not as good as one you buy because you get what you pay for. If you found a program that works for you and it keeps your computer safe, great, use it, advertise it and be happy. Just remember that not everyone will agree with you.

Where I live there are 2 Best Buy stores about equal distance from me. One of them I go into and ask questions, shop, make buys. The other one I dislike and try not to purchase anything from them. It has to do with the people working there. The same goes for Home Depot. I will drive a little further to one so I don't have to shop at the other. A lot of people have had good results with the Geek Squad. Also some have not. If they treat you right, keep going back.

You might also want to share the program if it is free. Maybe someone else can use it. Where did you get?
