As some of you may recall I had a problem with SAS rebooting my pc. http://mypcclinic.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17032&highlight=SUPERANTIspyware
Well, I ended up deleting BOClean which a certain individual at WS told everybody its good with ALL programs. said same about SAS. Anyhow, after this thing with SAS I started having problems with the NEW Ad-Aware.
About 3 minutes into a scan i'd get a pop up
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p256/surferdude469/adaware1.jpg
So I'd click to send error report & it'd tell me i had to connect to the internet which i was already. Then i'd get this pop up
http://i130.photobucket.com/albums/p256/surferdude469/adaware2.jpg
So, I put up with that crap for a few days till I finally deleted ad-aware & re-installed an older version. It worked flawlessly till I just now went to update my definitions & how SHOCKED could i be to see the NEW VERSION back. I NEVER downloaded it. When I delete something, I use their uninstaller & the last thing i do is go do a search for it & delete that.
I'm beyond puzzled. ANY suggestions
:eek::eek::eek::hi:
I am beginning to think your computer is haunted.

Is there a possibility that it updated itself when you last updated your definitions, or perhaps you did a system restore in your sleep. :)
Sorry not much help, but this is very strange.

I've done neither Amie. This is getting too weird if you ask me. I'm hoping to get that other computer soon so i can hopefully get it online as backup so i can remove every program I have & start over, i think. I'm open to suggestions.
I'm very confused:eek::eek::eek::hi:

Ok, since that previous post, I discovered I had two different versions of Spybot S&D so I removed both of them & downloaded ccleaner & ran it once. Reinstalled Spybot.
Here is what I had
Ad-Aware,AVG Anti-Rootkit Free,AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, AVG Free edition, BOClean, CCleaner, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, Windows Defender & Zone Alarm Free.
I've since removed BOClean & am still having "weird" problems.
Its a homemade win xp home with 512 mb RAM. My question is this.
To get the best protection possible for free, what should I add/remove? What could be conflicting with Ad-Aware? I'm puzzled.
:eek::eek::eek::hi:
So is your Ad-Aware playing up again now, since you discovered that it had somehow updated itself to the newer version, and are you having any other problems besides this one with Ad-Aware.

Amie, none to my knowledge. :(:hi:

Well I guess the old adage could apply here, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. So if everything is running fine right now, keep your fingers crossed it stays that way. :)

Ok, since ad-aware won't do ANY scans, I'm going to "try" to contact them,FWIW:hi:

If you still want to use Ad-aware, have you tried deleting it again, rebooting your computer and then reinstalling, perhaps something went wrong last time.

Ok, I did exactly that Amie & no change. I'm going to delete ad aware. I've had no problems with ad aware in the 5 years i've been online. sorry to see it go:mad::hi:

Sorry it didn't help, and so strange that it suddenly started giving you problems. :(

It might of been my error. Might you have a link to the FREE version? I'm sure that is what I installed, but, to error is human. I'm a human:hi:
Here are two sites I have used and trust, which have the latest free version. :)

I give up. I removed ad-aware,ran ccleaner,rebooted downloaded & installed adaware from Majorgeeks link,updated it & ran it & same crap. I firmly believe its ad aware & not me. I've used ad aware for 5 years flawlessly. They come out with a new version & I cannot use it:mad::mad::mad::mad:.
You know what I have;AVG Anti-Rootkit Free,AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, AVG Free edition, CCleaner, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, Windows Defender & Zone Alarm Free.
I'm wondering if I should re download BOCleanI just want the clean pc this novice learner has had with free programs.
I'm going to remove ad aware & :cry::hi:

I do think you are already very well protected, but if you wish to try Boclean again, then go ahead. I have been running my computer for nearly 7 years now, with just a good anti virus, a firewall, and Spybot and SpywareBlaster, and never had a virus or any spyware, apart from the odd cookie in IE, before I changed to FF. I know some people will probably shake their heads, but in all that time I have also never reformatted, or reinstalled windows, yet I bet my computer works better than a lot of peoples' :)

Ok. I'll probably reinstall BOClean later. I only uninstalled it thinking it was the culprit.
Amie,(& others ) I thank you for your patience. I hope this is now closed & looking forward to my new to me pc I'll be getting Friday barring the unexpected.:thumbs::hi:

:hi: Could it be with the browser, I had a simular problem with a download from the file hippo site using IE. They have an updater for free download, when part way through it that same window appeared. Then I went to FireFox and the download went perfectly.
