This is a rich time for scammers. You're going to see e-mail purportedly from the Internal Revenue Service. Don’t bite. The IRS is never going to e-mail you. Valentine’s Day is also right around the corner. We all want to be loved. And we're really curious about secret admirers.

Don’t fall for e-mail supposedly from secret admirers. Don't click the link to learn more. They're crooks. They don't admire you; they don't love you. They want to rob you blind.

And watch for e-mail postcards and greeting cards that contain links or attachments. They want to infiltrate your computer with scumware, or steal your identity.

How can you tell if your love e-mail is a problem? Look hard at the Valentine’s Day e-mail. Does the link use an IP address (like http://120.0.0.1) rather than a domain name? That's almost certainly trouble.

But other threats may have a typical Internet address. So, ask yourself: Are you absolutely, 110 percent positive the e-mail is legitimate? If not, remember my three words: Just don’t click.
