AVG Free joins its siblings in the land of 8.0
AVG Technologies, formerly Grisoft, has updated AVG Free to Version 8.0. The other antivirus programs the company publishes updated in March, following AVG's pattern of updating the free version about a month after the paid editions get their new coats of paint.

Gray,

did you know you posted this twice? This post, the second, has the line about Bruce, otherwise same thing, same title. Are you old enough yet to qualify for "Senior Moments"? That what I always try to use. :cjlol:

Okay I have been reading about AVG 8....lots of folks are having problems....some on another forum maybe downloaded from CNET and according to the referral to the AVG forums it looks like maybe that one is a corrupt file .....at least that is how I read it...Has anyone downloaded from grisoft....and how is it working if you have?
I also read the current version 7.5 won't have updates after the end of May

I followed your link and got 'Page could not be found' BUT the download started! Suits me, Janice

P.S. My husband just installed AVG.8 and ended up with a 'surfing toolbar.' Is that avoidable? I do not want a toolbar cloging up my screen.

Cheers, Janice

Hello, Janice and gang-

I just got the new version too, and there is a box that makes that toolbar optional. I opted to not get it. Maybe you guys can get back to that and uncheck it.

Hope it works out.

That thing has the zip. I got an email and thought it wasn't scanning, it came in so fast, but checked, and it IS operational! Some good pluses with the new version.

We were able to select not to have the toolbar. Whew!

It does have a nice graphic interface, doesn't it?

Questions re Vista and the update to free version 8.

In one of the avg forum links..(Big Al's sticky I believe).it was recommended to disable all other security protection prior to installation.

Would this mean all security settings plus, spywareblaster/superantispyware/spybot etc?...

If so......how does one best disable these... ?

Thanks ....much. :)

Those don't run so you don't have to disable them. When you install it, stop the old version of AVG from running and it will be fine and will automatically delete it when finished. It may still show in your Start/All Programs menu, but it is gone. If you have a browser open, it will tell you to close it. Anything else that it needs closed will be displayed to you.

Thank you very much MrBill.......

I had a time with the intitial set up of AVG 7.5...Redid several times before it worked.

AVG forum sticky says to uninstall....Did not realize it would uninstall by itself!

Appreciate!

Best Regards to you....:)
