I have IE6 as my default browser in xp pro (Iknow, but please refrain from recommending alternative browsers). Occasionally while surfing I open a page which appears to load, but as soon as it comes in the browser window closes. I can reopen IE and go wherever else I wish, but if I try to get to the page that caused the problem it happens again. Sometimes a restart resolves the issue, but not always. Also, it isn't always the same site which causes this. I looked at my browser setings (permissions, security, etc.) but they seem to be in order. Anyone have any thoughts?

A few random pages. The most recent ones have included tvguide.com, pcpitstop, and weather pages at intellicast or weather.com. On any given day it may or may not happen at all, and may be any or all of the above. I think it may have something to do with activex or flash, but my permissions in IE seem to be in order. Any suggestions related to IE are greatly appreciated! Sometimes I feel like :hammer:

Just an update. following advice received at a Lockergnome forum I checked and found that I had both sun java and microsoft vm enabled. I just now disabled MS vm in case having them enabled simultaneously was causing the problem. As the issue is intermittent, I don't know yet whether or not this was the problem. i'll keep you posted, as I'm sure everyone is waiting with baited breath :lmbo:

I sure hope that this is the answer to your problem, but I have both Sun and MS java installed and activated, as I need them for Firebird, and IE (which I am desperately trying to wean my daughter off of)

I tried holding my breath, while waiting, but went a funny colour, so gave up.

Well, this is still a mystery to me. Shortly after my last post I tried one of the occasionally troublesome sites. I went to Intellicast.com and clicked to enlarge a radar map (big storm coming into New England). As soon as the page loaded IE closed completely. Any pearls of wisdom, anyone? :got it:

Have you repaired IE6 yet? If not you might give that a try:
