Also wondering if this might have anything to do with the fact that my messages incoming and outgoing no longer have the message that it has been scanned by Avast?
If you get this message when checking mail in Outlook Express, go to
Tools > Accounts > Properties > Advanced
and make sure that neither of these two boxes are selected.

Amie, neither one of them are checked. BTW, since the update to 5.0.396 are your emails still having the thing at the bottom saying they have been scanned? Mine are now blank for incoming and outgoing too.

Does this popup happen when you are using OE, or is it when you check your online mail. I have never had a "thing" when checking my OE mail, the reason I know Avast is checking is because the ball icon in the system tray rotates. :)

Google enables Gmail encryption for everyone (http://www.scmagazineus.com/google-enables-gmail-encryption-for-everyone/article/161348/)
Google announced on Tuesday that it will enable the setting “always use https,” which encrypts email as it travels between a user's web browser and Google servers, by default for all Gmail users. Using "https" helps prevent data from being snooped, especially in public W-Fi hotspots, but could make email functions slower since encrypted data travels slower than unmasked data, Sam Schillace, Gmail engineering director, wrote in a blog post Tuesday. Previously, Google left the option of whether to enable the setting up to the user.
As Avast cannot read the encryption
It complains about it.
This happens with a secure (SSL) connection.

I only saw it when I installed the newer Avast. However, it now seems to just scan without any popups . . . but, I still don't have the text on my inbound or outbound messages saying that it has been scanned like the older version did. Is there a place to check to make it do that?
Thank you all for the help! :hi:

Click on the icon in the system tray, click the Real-Time Shield settings in the left menu > Mail Shield > Expert Settings > Behaviour > tick the first box.

Thanks, Amie! I don't know if it is in the outbound - but, it sure was on the incoming when I sent myself a test!
