I posted about WinTidy 20.0 in the Software forum and then I noticed that it is no longer a free download so I thought I would share how I actually do it.
Download layout.zip from this link: http://www.#error#.com/windows/tt/files/layout.zip
After you have downloaded the file, extract its contents into a folder. Open the folder and double click LAYOUT.REG to merge the information into your registry. Now copy the library LAYOUT.DLL to your Windows\System32 directory. To save your current desktop icon layout, right click on the Recycle Bin or My Computer on your desktop and select Save Desktop Icon Layout. To restore your previous desktop icon layout, right click the Recycle Bin or My Computer and select Restore Desktop Icon Layout.
Note if you don't have a System32 folder then put it in the System folder in Windows which may be the case in the older versions of Windows.
