Just testing. This picture was not made with a digital, just a regular camera but I think it turned out nice. This is a site I look forward to every year. At times you can look out and there may be 10-15 butterflies - all colors and sizes. It really let's me know that late spring/early summer have finally come! ;)
That is so nice Linda. Are they Monarch butterflies?

No, the ones pictured are swallowtails. But we do have Monarchs as well. They are orange. Sometimes you can look out and on the same bush see about 5 or 6 different varieties of butterflies in all sizes. They are a sight to watch as they float by.

Linda,
What kind of plant are the butterflies flocking to? I love butterflies and I may have to plant whatever it is there that they are going to. Lucky you, enjoy them. :)
Beebalm / Bergamot (Monarda didyma) is what I plant for humming birds , bees and butterflies . They love it :) And so do I , specially the red color :)

I bought that plant at a nursery and when I saw it there was a butterfly on it then. The funny thing is that later that year I went to the mountains of North Georgia and I couldn't believe it but my special plant that I had purchased at the nursery was all over the roadsides growing wild with butterflies on them. LOL! I have no idea what the name is - but, if you'd like one send me a pm and I'll send one to you. Also, I have what you call an actual butterfly bush in my garden. One is white and one is a bluish/purple and not only do the butterflies love it but the hummingbirds as well. Then I like to have lantana in hanging pots as they love those as well. Another good choice is cone flowers. The butterflies like them and then in the late summer you will see goldfinches landing among the flowers to eat the seeds. The good thing about the bush pictured and the butterfly bush and the cone flowers - they come back year after year.

Thanks for the butterfly picture, and the lesson. I don't know one butterfly from another. I will also look for some of the plants you folks have!

Just love it. And of course look whos in the garden looking after them? Got to get me some of those plants too. When alot of spraying (pesticides along the creeks) was being done, we kinda lost our hummingbirds and butterflies. I've noticed the last few years they are comming back strong.
