Hi,
I am hoping someone can tell me how to change the security setting in IE. I have IE 5.5. What should the setting be set at? I see alot of Data Miner and Tracking Co when I run Ad-aware. Would changing the security setting eleminate some of this? Thanks for your time. :)

Yes but you would probably get sick of being asked to allow cookies all the time. If you are not using IE-SPYAD then you might be better off using it and then just remove the cookies that do get in.
Medicated , you could try Jason's Cookie Jar . It's very good and your AdAware will have nothing left to search for :p And you will never again have to log in ;) You save the cookies you want and delete the rest . Its a free program :)

I use this one .
CookieWall

Online privacy is a big deal these days, with huge companies being formed
every month to both protect and exploit information gathered about you. By
far the most common method used to track individuals on the Internet is the
'Cookie', a small file stored on your machine with information provided by a
website... While the majority of the websites out there use this tool as it
was intended, more and more are exploiting it in ways that were never
intended - that's where AnalogX CookieWall comes in.
AnalogX CookieWall allows you to quickly and easily decide which cookies can
stay on your system, and which cookies should go - once you let CookieWall
know which ones are unwelcome, it does the rest. CookieWall can be configured
to delete cookies as soon as they arrive, to notify you of any new ones, or
just que them up for you to check out at a later date.
CookieWall is currently only compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer or
derived versions (such as NeoPlanet); Netscape support should be available
in the near future.
I use CookieWall in conjunction with my spyfile programs .
This is how it works .
Cookies come into the centre panel of CookieWall .
I run my spyfile cleaners and they tell me the badies ( don't delete until you have all the info & finished below )
I then use <<< to move them to the left hand side panel .
The balance of the cookies left in the middle , if you are 100% sure , they are good or you will need them in the future ( such as this forum's cookie ) use the >>> to move them to the right hand panel .
Any cookies left in the centre panel , that you are not sure of , click > Delete all new cookies from disk .

You may disable persistent cookies (those stored on your hard drive) but you will need to enable session cookies.
Personally, I would try this:
1. From the Tools menu in IE 5.5, click 'INTERNET OPTIONS'.
The Internet Options dialog box will open.
2. Click the 'SECURITY' tab.
3. Click the 'INTERNET' icon. (If you are on a local area network, you must also repeat this procedure with the Local internet icon selected.)
4. Click 'CUSTOM LEVEL'. The Security Settings dialog box opens.
5. From the Settings list, scroll down to Cookies.
6. Under the Allow cookies that are stored on your system option, click 'DISABLE' and then click OK.
7. Under the Allow per session cookies (not stored) option, click 'DISABLE' and then click OK.
8. Click on 'TRUSTED' icon in the Security tab.
9. Click 'CUSTOM LEVEL'. The Security Settings dialog box opens.
10. From the Settings list, scroll down to Cookies.
11. Under the Allow cookies that are stored on your system option, click 'ENABLE' and then click OK.
12. Under the Allow per session cookies (not stored) option, click 'ENABLE' and then click OK.
13. Click on the 'SITES' button
14. In the top box type in:*.66.150.196.121 (for this site)
15. Click on the 'ADD' button
(in order to add, make sure the 'Require server verification (https:) for this zone' is unchecked)
16. Repeat steps 14-15 for other Trusted sites that need a cookie like sites you are a member at.
17. Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog box.
This method will only allow cookies from sites that you put into your Trusted Zone. All others will be refused, thereby allowing you to manage your own cookies without a 3rd party app.
you could try Jason's Cookie Jar
I use this and it is excellent. I do find though that WinPatrol shows cookies that JCJ misses. I have just cleared all cookies with Cookie Jar and then went to Win Patrol and there were another 9 that Cookie Jar had missed.
Anyone interested in WinPatrol the address is http://www.winpatrol.com/winpatrolplus.html There is a free version.
