Please Help!!!!!!!

Life online was not meant to be still. I'm a teenager and its driving me nuts!!! All this non-movement.

Animations are not working in my IE6 browser. Not here at MYPC either, no avatars flash for me, no signatures move, even the smilies are still as stone and, not at any animated graphics site either. Not even when I save the animated graphic and view in Windows Fax & picture viewer. Or if I open the pic in a new window, please I can't take all this stillness I'm falling asleep at the computer already.

How can I get IE6 to display ANIMATION! I need to see cyberlife in motion!

Yes I already tried clearing my cache, deleting "Temporary Files" AND going to "Tools>Internet Options> Advance and checking and uncheck "Play animations in web pages" then opening and closing as Amie advised me to do, to resolve my animation problem. Nothing has worked!

Can anyone else offer a solution to try to get IE6 to play animations for me.

Are you using internet accelerator software? If so, you might try reducing acceleration.

Have you tried any other browser? If the Windows Fax & Picture viewer doesn't work for you, this has nothing to do with IE6, and may be a graphics card or something like that. (I'm not good with hardware.)

How long have you had this problem, if it a recent thing, have you considered doing a system restore to back before it started. Have you installed any new software recently, as that would have to be reinstalled if you did do a restore.

How about trying a different browser to see if animations work in that, then we would know it was a problem with IE. Unfortunately doing a repair of IE is more coomplicated with XP than it was in 98SE, but if you want to have a go, here are the instructions;

Where in my Setting & Options in my User CP do I turn ON Signatures and Avatars to be displayed flashing and animated? I did not see that.

The setting in your options will not make Signatures and Avatars animated, it just lets you choose whether to display them or not. You will find it under Edit Options > Thread Display Options > Visible Post Elements

You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts.
Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG] code)

Make sure your settings are like this in tools menu of IE>internet options>advanced tab>multimedia:

Do you have Irfanview installed? If so right click on the image below and do a Save Picture as to make a copy on your PC. Try opening this image in Irfanview to see if it is animated.

LeRoi ummm what thumnails? I don't see anything. Can you post that again?

RangerBob

Nope,
I opened the Animation you sent me in InfraView it ain't moving. That's a bad sign ain't it?(real sad face)

Amie:eek:

Ummm I'm a geek myself I don't think I'm gonna try to repair IE6
I have had this "NO motion on animation" problems only about a week. After I came here to MYPC and left WS, that's when it started. Yeah I installed 3 new things before this problem started. (whinning) I don't wanna do a system restore. I hate restore, it never works anyway.....(starts to seriously cry)

Grandma Carol (looking sad)

Another Browser?

Not sure I know how to install another browser. Although I have been reading the stuff at the FRONT DOOR of MYPC before I come in about IE6 not working here anymore cuz of the upgrade and stuff to MYPC. (sigh) I been thinkin bout it but I really don't wanna install another browser. I pray to GOD its not a hardware problem That really makes me wanna cry.....
Not sure I'd install another browser correctly if I did, I'd probably screw it up....
Is there anything I can do? Or is it just because IE6 will not work at MYPC anymore?

What about other sites OUTSIDE of MYPC, why can't I get animations to work anywhere else on the net. Or even on my own computer when I view downloaded animated graphics?

Is there no solution to my cyber anguish?
(melodramatically stabs herself with a cyber mouse and falls out her chair to the floor of her room wailing out loudly)

Oh dispair! dispair! Why has thou comest upon me in mine lowliest hour of internet cruising......

(hehehe)
but seriously does need help, just trying not to really stress over having no animation.....

Yep. I don't think you have an IE problem. How long have you had this problem and have you made any changes around the time this started.

By the way, the file that was created when you did the Save Picture as, did it have a gif extent?

Sacred Eyes
05-25-2004, 06:34 PM
Nope it saved only as a bitmap .bmp

Wasn't suppose to do that was it? I knew I had a problem. At WS when I asked why images were saving themselves as bmp when they were gif or jpg. The advice I got there was, it was probably the site, not my puter.....

I gotta log off for a bit cuz its raining here and thundering.(sigh)

After the storm passes I'll log back on to see your replies Bob.

Later
Angie
Be back after the storm passes
logging outta MYPC for now....

This might not be a complete solution but take a look at this MSKB and see if it helps at least the Save Picture as problem:

Try Ranger Bob's and Amie's advice above.

Here's that pic again, but since you can't see the first one...wait, I'll change it to a .jpg (.png is the extension of the first pic):

Do you have Zone Alarm (or similar)installed? Ad blocking in ZA can stop animations.

Eve, I sure do, geez don't I feel like a dunce!
I'll disable that and see what happens... thanks you for the reminder:)

LeRoi I still can't see it. But I just took Ranger Bob's advice and went to the link he left me. I followed instructions there and closed everything. But I'm thinking I must gotta go out and come back in AFTER I reboot and log back on and THEN come back here. I pray that link Bob left me/along with Eve's ZA reminder about the "Ad blocking" thing, was the reason animation stopped working for me.

Oh to let y'all know, while I was offline I ran the following programs:
Ad-aware, CW Shredder, SpywareBlaster, and PestPatrol, they all found things. I hope I carefully removed only what was necessary, PestPatrol found Wildtangent! But it ignored the files deleting ONLY 2 Wildtangent files and left all the rest.

Gonna see if images save in their correct format now. BRBLOMPC=Be Right Back Logging out of MYPC after I hit the submit reply button.....

That's great, Angela. Now, did you completely shut off ZA or merely fix the ad-blocker? You need a firewall, sweetie!
BTW, IE6 will work fine at MPC. The stuff you read said that other browsers will also work well at MPC, not in place of. And trying other browsers can be lots of fun; I'm still using Firebird as my main browser, but once in a while I get the urge to go to something else.

It is odd that ZA would stop all animations. The free version does not have the banner blocker so that may be why I have not seen it happen with ZA but I have seen browser accelerators do this. I believe Alex had a problem much like this until he figured out how to dump his accelerators cache.
