I am having trouble getting into my Yahoo mail service......One of the things they said to do was to delete all cookies.....To my surprise I have over 300  ...I went to Start>search>files/folders.......I thought I was cleaning up every week but I don't think I have been where ever the search took me too....Is it safe to go ahead and delete them?
WINME IE6 sp1
Thanks

Question; Why don't you periodically clear caches?
index.dat corruption can cause all sorts of probs. Even if you clear the cookies folder, they are still represented in the index.dat. There are many tools designed to clear caches. I use SSD to clear product caches as well as Window's caches. Additionally, I use 3S(http://www.igorshpak.net/) to clear others that SSD doesn't handle as well. You'd be surprised at how many probs can be easily solved by clearing caches.
Note that if you use 'auto-complete' and don't want to reload all info, be sure to exclude it. All good cache cleaners will do auto-complete, so be aware.

Yep, I like a program called Empty Temp Folders to protect the cookies that I do not wish to lose and remove the others. You can download it from here:
http://www.danish-shareware.dk/soft/emptemp/index.html
You can also use this program to clean up the other caches on you systems also such as the Temp folder or Recent files.

In IE go to Tools/Internet Options/General. If you click on the Delete Cookies button you will delete your cookies. To clean the Temporary Internet Files click on Delete Files right next to the Delete Cookies button. Next select "Delete all offline content" and then click on OK. This will clean up the cookies and TIF except for the Index.dat. You can use a program called Remove on Reboot Shell Extension to remove the Index.dat file. You can download it from here:

You will probably have a Temp folder in your Windows folder but other may exist as well so you will probably have to do a search for them to locate all of them. If you don't mind spending a little money a program that I use and really like will do all this for you. It is called Window Washer 5.

If you delete a cookie that lets you remain "log in" between sessions you will have to log in again to gain that cookie back. One should keep track of User ID's and Passwords in the event they are needed. I use Slimbrowser for its AutoLogin feature which gives me a simple easy way to log in after I clean up the cookies. Selective cookie cleaning is a really good way to go too. Now I've got two programs new to me to play with.

Just a point WearyWolf, I run window washer 4.8 and I purchased an upgrade to v 5 sometime back and it would not work on my ME system. They told me to wait for v5.5 and I installed that a few days ago and that will not function either. I sent them another email and I have had no further reply and no offer of a refund. The advice they gave me was to reduce the Hardware acceleration which I did but to no avail. I now use other programs but am disappointed with Webroot.

WearyWolf , I use a small program Cookie Jar and you can move the cookies you need (want to keep ) or delete the rest. very easy to use . :) http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/programs.asp

Jane, I can vouch for Cookie Jar as you mentioned it before and I tried it with great success.

:ditto: Jasons Cookie Jar.I use it every day. I also use the free version of WinPatrol. Can be downloaded HERE (http://download.com.com/3302-8022_4-10276208.html?pn=2&fb=0)
It seems to pick up a few that CJ misses, and also displays Startup info and Active tasks with the option to Disable/Remove them. :)

Just a thought, I use firefox and have cookies set to session only. Never worry about them although once I week I do what RB said about internet options and clearing files although nothing is there.

Hi....After all the cleaning I still had these left when I did another search.....Someone told me they looked suspicious.....What do you think......Are they safe to delete? The first one is when i clicked on the cookies folder.
The 2nd one with the big black arrow said this
"HTTP Cookie File
# http://www.netscape.com/newsref/std/cookie_spec.html
# This is a generated file! Do not edit.
# To delete cookies, use the Cookie Manager."
I need help!
