i decided to return to Mozilla (from Firefox) just as an occasional change of pace so I downloaded and installed Mozilla 1.7rc2 -- which installed happily and runs fine, so far.

Couple of questions, though:

1) Is there any way to achieve the same tabbed browsing functions as in FF? Using the Tabbed Browsing Extension extension in FF I was able to configure FF to open tabs instead of new windows for most navigation. The only exceptions are that a window will be reused if the link in a site points to another page on the same site. And a NEW window (not a tab) will open for allowed pop-ups. Can I achieve the same thing or something similar in Mozilla.

2) What's with "prefetch". Is this the same trick so-called "internet accelerators" use to speed up browsing? Does it work in Mozilla?

3) In fact, is there a menu of "extensions" of all sorts for Mozilla like there is for FF?

1)Tabbrowser Extensions has such a function, but some of it's functions can be resource and memory intensive, but its' pretty intuitive to know which ones can slow Mozilla down. The way I have it set up it doesn't seem to slow it down at all.

2)Prefetching links will slow Mozilla down, it prefetches links on pages where links are compatible with its' use; not at all like an internet accelerator.

3)http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/

Gotta go, lightning.

I hadn't used Mozilla regularly since I started using Phoenix 0.5 but, with the "Preferences Toolbar" installed, this Mozilla 1.7rc2 is every bit as fast to render web pages as Firefox, which is my #1 requirement in a browser. And, as with FF, the Tabbrowser extension extension gives a wide range of tabbing options (which have some unexpected consequences and which requite fine tuning.) I find that the "prefetch" option doesn't seem to slow anything down -- but nor have I seen any links or parts of links load any faster with prefetch enabled.

Also the built in mail client is handy -- and since the toolbars are collapsable I can use a "bigger" (and more attractive) theme than I can in FF due to my very limited dektop space. (Pinball is my current favorite.) I miss the built in dictionary search bar that FF affords but maybe I can find a spill chucker that works with Mozilla (none seem to in FF.)

I have also had no problems launching media players (Mozilla 1.5 would occasionally choke on RealOne.)

And, while FF would occasionally crash (only very occasionally) I have yet to crash Mozilla 1.7rc2.

I have found one bug -- but it is more of an "unexpected behavior" that occurs when the tabbrowser extension and the popup stopper argue -- and it is easy to overcome.

So there.

A "spill chucker?" Yeah, I'd say you need it! http://www.globalarray.net/user/carolj100/emotipad/11.gif

A little more. The "Quick Launch" feature, which I had been warned off previously and therefore never tried, seems to work in this version with no issues. Of course, keeping another brower resident in the memory might not be something you would want to do just to save a few moments when you launch Mozilla.
