Hi Lobbie and welcome to MyPcClinic, :)

I haven't used the new Java Runtime Environment, still using 1.4.1.

Are you using this with Internet Explorer? It is usually preferable to use the Microsoft Virtual Machine instead of Sun Java with IE (if you have it installed) and the JRE with other browsers, like Mozilla, Opera etc. If you open a command prompt (start>run>CMD in XP, I believe) and type jview, do you see a version number? If so you have the M$VM installed.

Go to start>settings>control panel>Java control panel>browsers tab, uncheck "make default for IE" (or similar) and click apply. Now see if your browser/Java works better.

I( have tried everything that you have suggested here & nothing has worked so far.
When I went into the CMD all that gives is Windows XP version 5.1.2600

I don't think that is a version of Java is it ??

Cahnged default to IE but still the samething here.

I am using MYIE2

Thanks for the help here.

When you opened the command prompt, did you type "jview" without the quotation marks and press enter?

Here is a picture of mine (enlarged), it says the version number is 5.00.3810

It appears that you don't have the M$VM installed.

I will try to find a download for it, but then you must uncheck (and click apply) "make default for IE" in the Java control panel to be able to use it.

It may be difficult to find a download site for the M$VM because of the legal battles over it.

There is a storm brewing, must shutdown, but I'll be back asap.

You're most welcome, Lobbie and please don't feel like a dummy, we all had to learn this stuff sometime ourselves. We're just glad you got things working. :)

Thanks for your help, Jane.
