View Full Version : Can't stay Logged in....Opera

Is there a reason why I have to keep signing in here everytime I come back to this site?
I have it checked off to remember me and it has a cookie...I'm using Opera and never changed any settings since the switching of servers. I did allow this new site a cookie.
FIXED!!!

>> I did allow this new site a cookie.<<
I have four cookies from here, maybe you need to allow more than one?

I do that LeRoi...I have 4 cookies from here.
When I leave I still have to sign in and I don't throw away new cookies on exit.

Hmmm, I don't know what might be wrong, Crockett.
I don't have that problem though, don't know what the difference might be. Do you have the same problem using other browsers?

I just closed my browser and re-opened it and had to sign back in again. I noticed that the first 2 cookies were missing. All the other sites I sign into keep all their cookies and they don't disappear. Just from here...and it didn't do this at the old server, but then again, at the old server, it wouldn't allow me to attach any attachments in a reply using Opera.
I just think it just doesn't like Opera. :nono:
<EDIT> I don't have this problem on any other browser or site that I sign up for.

Bumping for Mike.
Crockett.
It is unlikely that Mike will be here for the next couple of weeks, he is taking a well earned break.
I know you have probably tried this but, try logging out, then manually delete all your stored cookies for MPC, then log back in again.
I found this in our help file:
If your computer is unable to use the cookie system to browse the board correctly, then the board will automatically add in a session ID to each link to track you around the board.
I notice that you have a session cookie listed in your attachment.
I just logged out, cleared my cookies, then logged back in and I only have two from here, strange ?
Wonder if any of our other Opera users are having the same problem, do you know anyone else who uses it here.

Hi Amie
Thanks for responding....yes, I had already tried that and the first two cookies still disappear and therefore I have to log in again. I don't know why.
When you get a cookie prompt in Opera, at the bootom of the prompt, it usually asks "accept, including updates before closing Opera"...and I say yes...this usually works. I've tried all the other options to, which include "Accept from domain"; "accept from server"., all to no avail.
I know that the old version of My PCClinic also had a problem with allowing Opera users the ability to upload an attachment in a reply. That part is fixed now.
The ones I know that use Opera are Dizzy, Janet, uffbros, Juts, Harley, Linda, Alan and Jan.
Sorry,
I can't be of any further help, you obviously know all about Opera, whereas I know nothing. Perhaps it might be worth sending a PM to the people on your list who are members here, to see if they can help. Certainly none of the others have mentioned having to log in on each visit, so have something set up differently somewhere.

I've been advised that she has an older version of Opera v6.02 and she can't stay logged in either.
Crockett.
The only thing I can do is tell Mike when I talk to him next, but not sure when that will be, or if he can actually do anything about it.
Sorry.

Thanks anyways, Amie.
I just gotta remember to sign in whenever I first come back because there have been a few times when I go to post and I never realized I wasn't signed in. Then I sign in and lose my spot.

I've decided that this forum does not like Opera. :)
...it's frustrating that I have to keep signing in using my favorite browser, and if I go to another tab in Opera and come back, I still have to do it sometimes.
...and I don't get notification popups for PM's like I did in the old forum. I am configured correctly in both this place and in Opera Preferences.
Other than that, I love this place.

Thanks Brian, but it does it for me "sometimes", not all the time.
I've been on the net all night and I've had to sign in about 5 times already, but have left way more than that to use other tabs.

I sent you a pm Crockett but for the benefit of readers I'll post it here as well.
"I hear through the grapevine that you are still having troubles using Opera. I would like to get this fixed and am told it is not a problem with the software but with your particular security settings as many people who use IPB use opera with no problems remaining logged in.
I have never used Opera so I do not know how to configure, however if you can tell me if it is accepting our cookies (if so how many) I can ask someone who is a little more savy with Opera and knows IPB to help us out."

Thanks for your patience, Mike....I didn't know I had a PM cause I never received a popup and it is enabled.
What I don't understand is that with this same browser and the old forum, I was able to stay signed in and got requested popups for PM's. The only thing I couldn't do with this browser here, was post attachments.
Now, without making any changes in my preferences and using the same browser, I can now post attachments, but cannot stay logged in nor can I receive popups....so how can that be a security setting on my part, if I never changed anything?
In my attachment, you will see my cookies before and after signing in and you'll see my Privacy tab settings.
For first party cookies(normal) I first set it to Display Received Cookies. When I get a cookie prompt that I want, I then choose from a dropdown list "Accept all cookies from this domain". Once I get the cookies from that site into my Server Filter list, I then set it to Select Only cookies from selected servers and those servers are in my list. This way I don't get prompted for cookies at every site I visit.
Hope someone can help me.

I removed your attachment as it listed your md5 hash which can be deciphered to get your password.
The way this forum operates is completely different from the way the old one operates in every way. It is a different coding, a differend database software and a different platform so you can't compare this one to the old one. However, if you are signed up for any other IPB forums and are not having troubles there then we know it's my configuration on the board. But I'm being told by people who know a lot more about this than I--and they use opera--that it is your security settings.
I will let you know what I can dig up in the way of what you can do.

I appreciate it Mike...whatever it takes, I'll do it. :)
I'm not sure what an IPB forum is though. I know I belong to DCForum, vBulletin

Hold the press!!! I just downloaded and installed the newest version of Opera, just released, 7.20, and now my problem is not a problem anymore. :bd:
I only had to sign in once to give them a cookie and that's all.
Did I say I was a happy man?

Glad to hear--now keep track of your tweaks and tell me when it happens again as I still blame it on the browser and not here :)

Mike, you say that as though you don't expect the new Opera to work either! I just downloaded it myself.

Hey Mike I have the same problem with IE Browsers (I use IE, Avant, MyIE2, and Wichio) and I have to login everytime I come back.... I have had the some problem at other IPB forums, on one of them I notified the admin, he told me that a few other users had the same problem and that he would look into it and after a few days it was fixed... So I don't know what it was or what he did but it only happens with Invision boards...

The reason why it seems to be IPB is probably how the forum handles cookies--vB, IPB, openbb, all are coded differently.
It is not a problem with the forum or with the browser but with your configuration. He may have made the cookies global and your configuration needs that however I and many others have used MyIE2 and IE with no problem logging in.
With Crockett, he had the same problem until he got the new Opera and now doesn't. To me that furthers my assumption that the browser's configuration is the prolem. ;)

No, what I was saying was some tweak of the configuration is what was causing it. So, since it's working now, I was hoping he could watch what tweaks he made in the future in case it stops working that way we may be able to pin point the problem. B)

Hey Rico!...LOL  Just to let you know I tried every configuration possible with my old 7.11 and nothing would work. All I know is that one day it worked, I changed nothing, you got a new board, I changed nothing, it didn't work anymore. :hammer:

Ah, but since every forums software handles cookies differently--especially the jump from asp (M$) to PHP (not M$), makes a huge difference. And please, it's Mr. Suave to the men in here. :king:
