Getting tired of all those icons all over your desktop, why not have just those little blocks of text, they take up less room run in a column or line. Now your probably saying Poor Randy, he's finally gone off the deep end  If you have access to a Icon editor make a blank Icon and start replacing all those icons with a blank, Wahla, nothing but text boxes. Leave it to a totally crazy person like me to come up with THAT! =-)
If you don't have an editor just PM me and I'll email you a 'blank icon' It really looks strange at first, but I'm starting to like it, different.

the PrtScn button will capture it for you :) Then just paste into a photo program (even paint)

IF you have Xp why not just put all of them in a couple of tool bars on your task bar? You can put any folder there as a tool bar. I actually have four: Working, Web, Graphics and DeStress. Leaving only two web shortcuts on the desktop.

This is Sue's desktop, she has about 1/10th the icons I do, she likes simple, not alot of prgms on her puter.

PS: By playing w/size in ControlPanel/Display/Apperance/Icon You can probably get them even closer together if wanted/needed:hammer:

I'm not saying
Poor Randy, he's finally gone off the deep end, but if anyone wants to go in that direction, they can make icons that are themselves text, so there's space for long titles.

My examples: on the left, what you see in your icon editor (gray = outline of icon; red = icon title); on the right, what these look line on your desktop.

It is all beyond me... but I find it interesting. I am really OK with how mine looks though, but will definitely keep it in mind for when I get tired of it. Thanks for the information!

I make one folder that says desk drawer on my desktop. Then I take all the icons that are shortcuts and drag them into it. There are a few that won't go and I just leave them alone. I only have about 6 on my desktop.

Exactly... Some of us, like me, prefer NO icons ;)

I use WebKey or Win Key and it eliminate icons on the desktop when I wish by clicking on Desktop and then using the menu provided.

I'm like that most times, too! Just like a few things at hand, usually. George.

I use Iconoid at work on my Win2k PC, and it works okay... My only issue is that even if I have it set to always hide my icons, they're not always hidden... often, when opening a program, they re-appear for a second or two... not a huge issue, but an annoyance nonetheless.

Hey Randy... You are one of the few people who do know where I am. We're all so secret out here. So you must know Trona...I don't think that it's changed much. Still stinks!!! Poison Canyon still has its share of accidents and deaths, the road is still winding and narrow. :hi:

It's funny, because I like a neat desktop and while working on icons and graphics my desktop will have up to 40 different items. So, I have one folder on my desktop that at the end of the day I throw all my crap in if I don't get finished because it's just depressing to me to see all that clutter.
