I have been trying since Last Night to Load AdAware SE. And it just won't Install. I have D/L'd it 3 times, thinking I got a Bad D/L. But every time I get the same Error Message, see attachments.

Seems quite a few other people are having the same problem Bruce, here is a thread about it in the Lavasoft support forum, and their possible solution.

Yes that is the same program, but you should have no problems with it, as you are running XP Pro which will have the updated .dlls necessary, whereas Bruce is using 98SE.

The SE Install Problem is now Cured.
Do a Search for (riched20.dll & riched32.dll) in Files & Folders. They should be in C:\windows\system. riched20.dll should be 280KB and riched32.dll should be 184KB. The riched32.dll on my Computer was only 4KB, so I extracted the original from my 98SE Install CD. Once that was done AdAwareSE Installed with no Error Message.

As you all know if something happens that I can't find an answer to, even though I worked around it to fix a Problem. I will still keep looking for an answer as to WHY it happened in the first Place. Well Today I finally got my Answer, strictly by Accident. I ran Belarc to check something else and noticed that Update 249973 had a Red X next to it. So I researched it at M$ to see just what it was. Turns out that it mentions the Files that were messed up, stopping me from installing AdAware SE.
So now I have D/L'd the Update exe File from M$ and saved it to Floppy to install it on the affected Computer. Hopefully it won't mess things up again.

Well that idea DIDN'T work. It still shows as Not Installed.

Bruce,

Is this where you downloaded the update from.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q249973/

Is it listed in Add/Remove programs ?

It is not listed in Add/Remove.
What I did was go to M$ and did a search for the # and followed the Links to get the .exe D/L. I saved it to Floppy on this Computer and then took the floppy to the other computer and ran it. And it didn't work. I have had Belarc show bad Updates Installs before and every time I was able to get the .exe Update File and run it and it worked every time. But not this time.
I don't understand why, unless it is because of how I had to get AdAware SE to Install.
