Have you tried repairing Internet Explorer to see if it helps?

Mike,

See if you can access the repair tool using the second or third method on this page:

Did you see the last method at the bottom?

That opened up a new window where the only option is add component. The install/repair was greyed out.

The only other thing I can think of right now is to try system file checker, but having never used 98, I don't know how to use it. I know you need your Windows CD handy or to have the .cab files installed on your hard drive.

Here is a link to all the downloads for IE so you could upgrade to either IE 5.5 or IE 6 to see if it fixes the problem.

Installed, restarted, and got an error and for the life of me I was too foolish to write it down.

Right now, I am trying to download the updates, and this time no error, however, it is staying stagnant "prepairing to download".

Mike, mind if I ask a Question?
Are you using the active update site, in other words where it scans and you select the updates and then they install automatically?
I have run into problems doing it that way. So now I get the Update .exe files and save them on my Hard Drive and then install that way. Much less chance of corruption. HTH
