View Full Version : Device Manager Shortcut
To create a desktop shortcut to Device Manager
Right click a blank area on the desktop, point to New, and click Shortcut. Type in c:\Windows\System32\ devmgmt.msc. Click Next.
Type in a name for the shortcut. Click Finish.
Did you know you can also open Device Manager by pressing the Windows key at the same time as the Pause Break key. :)
Amie, when I do Win Key and Pause Break it opens up System Properties. :)
Edit:Woops sorry, click hardware tab on System Properties and there is the Device Man :jig:

Yes with XP it makes you click one more time, as I found out when we installed it on our new laptop. :)

Hum. I just checked my shortcut and this is what I have:
%windir%\system32\mmc.exe c:\windows\system32\devmgmt.msc
It works fine so I wonder why I have the mmc.exe in it. It goes straight to device manager.

Doesn't really answer your question, but mmc.exe is the Microsoft Management Console application and is used to display various management plug-ins accessed from the Control Panel, such as the Device Manager. This program is a non-essential system process
I've made a shortcut to Computer Management and dragged it to my Taskbar . That way I have it all @ one click. Very handy .
