I went to a site and downloaded several Themes, everyone had several viruses in them, but before I blow any whistles on them, I need some advice.

These are the viruses:

backdoor.sm.5

dropper small.5.j

clearsearch\GLH000.s.tmp

What is protocol for this? Do I tell the name of the site to the board? Do I contact the site first? This is a site w/ advertising, I don't want to do harm if not warrented.

any help?

Well my personal opinion is that if you are positive these files contained viruses, in order to protect our members, who might not be as security concious as you are, you should post the name of the site. I would also see if there is a contact address on the site, and send them an email with the names of the Themes you downloaded and the names of the viruses. If they are a reputable site, I am sure they would like to know what has happened, and remove these files as soon as possible.

I'm not really board saavy, do I post, to which "Forum?" the site name or do I refer to this one?

Should I contact the site first?

What I was suggesting you do, was post in this thread the name of the site you got the viruses from, and then get in touch with that site itself if possible, to warn them about these bad files. If this stops just one person from ending up with an infected computer then you will have done a good job. :)

I don't think it is necessary to contact the site first, as no matter what they say, you did get infected files from them, and they should have security measures in place to protect from this happening. Think how many people could become infected while you are waiting for a reply, which might never come.

It seems that viruses are not the only nasty thing you can get from their site.
