I have recently started using Win XPHE w/SP2. I use a firewall by Agnitum called Outpost. I have used it and my ISP (Nocharge.com) for a couple of years on a Win98SE machine with no problems. Now when I connect to the internet I am asked to allow this: Application Layer Gateway Service, Protocol is TCP, Direction is inbound, Host is nocharge.com, Port is 1025. Is this something necessary in XP? Should I allow it or stop it?

Have you been allowing it? If you tried to, what were the results?

I allowed it because it was the ISP, but wonder what it is.

It is not actually your ISP, that is just how it is connecting to the internet.

I had to learn about XP fast, as after 5 years of using 98SE on my computer we bought a new laptop for downstairs, and installed XP Pro on it. I spent the next 2 weeks reading every book and web page I could find to get it set up for absolutely optimum performance, and it flies now. The hardest part was wirelessly networking it to my computer to share our Broadband, but we got there in the end. :)
