I use Mozilla as my default browser, or at least I have been for a week or two. I just went to Webshots.com to down load some pictures for my webshots program. I use it for wallpaper and screen saver. Anyway, I started to download the first picture and Mozilla started a chain reaction of opening new windows, about 20 of them until I started closing them faster than they could open and finally got them all shut down. Anybody know what would cause that. I use ver. 1.4

Hi Milt,
I have no idea what might have caused this behavior, but I did notice a post somewhere that a fellow was saying that he had to use IE for webshots for some reason. I'll try to find that thread again, but I'm not sure where exactly I saw it.
I wonder if Webshots uses some sort of activeX control?
It should not have caused that problem though, have you got pop ups disabled? I will try to find more info.
I use Mozilla 1.2.1, had 1.4b for about 2 hours, didn't like it very much, it had some what I would call "odd behaviors". There are no security issues with 1.2.1 that I am aware of and I'm going to keep using it because I like it better than the newer versions, so far. I also tried 1.3. Moz 1.2.1 is still available on the releases page at Mozilla.org.

This is all I saw, Milt:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=webshots...enet.com&rnum=1 (http://groups.google.com/groups?q=webshots+group:netscape.public.mozilla.*&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&safe=off&selm=4bFRa.5933%24C71.4349%40fe01.atl2.webusenet.com&rnum=1)
I will continue to look for info.

Milt and Elwood
I have had the exact same thing happen but now I don't remember the site or exactly the cause. I seem to recall, though, that Mozilla was preventing a script from running (don't remember which script) and the site kept trying by opening new windows. Sorry I can't be more specific. But there are some (very very few) sites that DON'T work in Mozilla. And if Webshots is one of them and you are willing to take the risk of running a script called by a website you can always use IE.

Just as an aside, I used Webshots when I used Mozilla (and now on Firebird) and had no problems. So it CAN be done. But I have no ideas how.

Take a look at my advanced prefs having to do with scripts and plugins:
(these are for 1.2.1, hopefully other folks can guide you for 1.4)

Thanks for the help LeRoi. I have Mozilla set for no popups. I had that happen a long time ago with IE. It opened about 30 new windows before I got it stopped. I'll check out that link you sent as well. Also I willl send a copy of my post to the Mozilla web site. Maybe they will know what caused it.. I have downloaded from webshots with IE and Netscape with no problems. I had downloaded with Mozilla last week and it did not do that.

A couple of times that has happened to me using Microsoft IE and not on the webshot site. Never did find the answer to it.

Hi Janet,
I do have prefs set to no popups. I will try changing it and see if that makes a difference. I know Webshots.com does have some ad popups.
PS: Glad to see you back.

I had everything checked on mine. I changed the settings to match yours and will see what happens.

Well, changing the settings in prefs. didn't make a difference. Downloaded a picture from webshots and as soon as it was done and starting the install, it started that chain reaction of opening new windows. 27 before I got it stopped.

Is it possible to close the browser during the install?
Like can you download to disk then install with the browser closed or is it necessary to open the file while online?
I have never used Webshots, sorry I can't be of more help. It may be necessary to use IE for that site. There are a very few sites that are only IE compatible (bad design).

You need to keep it open. I went to webshots a little while ago using IE and down loaded 3 photos with no problem. If you like to change wallpaper frequently or want screensaver pictures, check them out at: www.webshots.com. I have been using them for several years. Anyway, I guess I will just use IE when I want pics from Webshots.

You might want to contact the webmaster at Webshots and tell him/her about the problem and that you would really like to use Mozilla for downloading from there. You might also want to tell him/her about the anybrowser campaign.
I know that sites can be made compatible with Mozilla, if they would only adhere to W3C standards. It is the non-standard sites that cause trouble for people who want to use standards compliant browsers and not take the risks inherent in using IE.

Thanks LeRoi, I'll give that a try. Can't hurt. ;)
